There was a point in time where I was a staunch Zeus-anti. It never crossed into disrespect of Zeus himself, but at the time, most of the Zeus defenders I came across were borderline (if not actual) rape apologists. My distain for them steeped into my perception of Zeus.

I feel like a lot of helpols believe either that Zeus is Bad and having positive feelings about Him makes you bad, or Zeus is Good, and having negative feelings about Him makes you bad.

#5 is the real one. You can find a reference to Atalanta wrestling Peleus at funeral games while on the journey of the Argo in The Library by Pseudo-Apollodorus.

Ovid invented the version where Medusa was originally a woman and Ovid hated most of the gods on principle. Also, he was Roman. The earliest versions of gorgon myths depict her and her sisters as being born as monsters.

There's no reference in ancient mythology to Hestia giving up her spot. In some regions she was one of the 12 Olympians, and in others Dionysus was on the list instead. The idea that she stepped down was invented by modern writers who like to have coherent logic in their stories.

Pandora according to Hesiod was the first woman and perfectly aware of what was in her jar. She was created as part of the punishment for mankind. Human women didn't exist before Pandora according to Hesiod. But because Hesiod was misogynistic even by ancient Greek standards, writers and artists after the ancient Greek religion died out re-characterized her as stupid and curious rather than evil.

I’ve had to reiterate multiple times that I’ve got no issue with the existence of retellings. What I’ve got an issue with is people claiming something was part of Ancient Greek religion when it very much wasn’t and I have an issue with people not giving credit to writers, being a writer myself. Charline Spretnak’s retellings she made for her at the time young daughters have been spread around as “the true version” of different myths without crediting her. Even in published works. I personally can’t enjoy “the totally real less sexist” versions of stories when you’re stealing a modern woman’s work without crediting her and ignoring the real culture of a real people who existed at the same time.

Saint Joan of Arc

Patronage: France; martyrs; captives; military personnel; people ridiculed for their piety; prisoners; soldiers

Joan of Arc, national heroine of France, was born in 1412 during the Hundred Years War. At age 12 she began receiving visions of Saint Michael, as well as other angels and saints, telling her to drive out the English. Possessing remarkable mental and physical courage, Joan led the French army to victory over the British at Orleans when she was 18. Several additional victories led to Charles VII’s coronation. Eventually burned at the stake, she held up a cross calling continually upon the name of Jesus. A retrial declared her innocent in 1456 making her a martyr. Joan of Arc was canonized 500 years later.

Clothing company Patagonia is currently sueing drag queen Pattie Gonia for "irreparable” harm to their brand.

To be clear; Pattie named herself after the region in South America.

So Pattie is asking people to politely ask Patagonia to drop the lawsuit.

I'm extending the invitation to all of you, because sueing a drag queen for 'infringement' in the current political cultural landscape is vile. Especially a drag queen who has raised millions of dollars for non-profits, uses her platform to raise awareness for climate activism, and fully aligns with Patagonia's apparent climate-conscious mission statement.

They're claiming they're sueing for $1. They're actually asking her to stop using her name, and pay over $1 million in legal fees. They're straight up harassing her.

In contrast, drag queen Jan Sport has a Jansport bag line. It's that easy to just... work with a queen.
