There is now a way to prevent the spread and recurrence of melanoma with Keytruda and an mRNA cancer vaccine.
Like, if a person gets melanoma and has it removed, and then they get vaccinated and do a course of Keytruda, it doesn't spread and it doesn't come back.
I am having ALL the feelings, and it's probably because I've been up for like 29 hours (I do not recommend this to anyone, it was a bad choice coupled with being overtired). But let me see if I can explain.
Melanoma is SUPER SCARY. Even though I have metastatic breast cancer, I'm still more scared of melanoma. Ever since I started paying attention, Stage 4 melanoma has pretty much been a "kiss your ass goodbye" cancer. It's THE reason to wear sunscreen. It's why dermatologists check every mole--to catch skin cancers early before they turn into Stage 4 melanoma.
And I've had at least 30 blistering sunburns over the course of my life. That's just an estimate; it's been too many to count. If metastatic breast cancer doesn't get me (or even if it does), there's probably gonna be some form of skin cancer in my future.
So, obviously, having a vaccine to prevent recurrence and spread of melanoma is awesome news for me specifically. (And Twin Bro, who got all the same sunburns, and bike commutes.)
But, like, bigger picture. Despite all the cuts to science and cancer research, and all the backlash against mRNA vaccines, and the fact that this has to be profit driven, people are still doing science for the common good!

Microaggressions against polyamory in interpersonal interactions are important and should be discussed, but I do wish more of the conversation focused on the ways that systemic amatonormativity impact things like family units, taxes, healthcare, inheritances, housing, childcare, etc.
I'm not dating or married or related to anyone I live with, and our household of four adults can't get any kind of financial or food or housing aid because we count as three separate households despite our semi-blended finances and living together for a decade. There are laws that have been proposed (at least, I don't know if any passed) that limit housing to nuclear families.
Amatonormativity and polyphobia are not just theoretical "people are kinda mean about this sometimes" -- they are real and materially impactful systemic issues, and they affect all of us.
