hi, loves.

i've had heaps of questions about whether i plan to continue publishing custom content lately, since i've been sharing my art on my ig instead of my cc. i guess i've avoided the question by saying 'for now', but the truth is 'for now' has a pretty short timeline. i plan to stop releasing content for the game at the end of october. i don't want this to be long or emotional so i'll just say the things i need to say.

i'm not getting enjoyment out of creating for the game anymore. since i started to explore other elements of 3d - with environment creation specifically, i just feel like i've found my happy place. i really tried to keep going with custom content, but it is actually doing the opposite of sparking joy, so i have to walk away from it. i'm not saying forever at this point, because i might miss it and come back. but for now i'm really, really enjoying the creative freedom of just making art because i want to make it.

thank you endlessly for all of your support for the last year and a bit. it has changed the way i view the world in many ways, and i can never express to you how grateful i am. i'll be keeping the same instagram account to share my work moving forward, and i'll be repurposing my website because i love this handle. but i'll keep a section on there with a bulk archive of my work so it doesn't end up lost to the abyss. i will probably just unpublish my patreon at the end of october, but maybe return to share blender scenes at some point.

part of me just wanted to share this image because i made a new reshade and i’m quietly fucking obsessed with it.

while i’m here though, just a heads up that all my past early access sets have been removed from my patreon over to be hosted only my website; it’s much easier to navigate than scrolling for ever through a patreon page in my opinion. all my individual pieces released weekly are still hosted on patreon, at least for now. but they’re almost all free with the exception of current early access, so you can use the tagging system to grab those if you’d like.

hello my loves.

a few things. first; i will most certainly be active again from july into the foreseeable future. this break was greatly needed, but used wisely. i am rested and refreshed and looking forward to being active again. i have some new content that i’m super excited to share with you, and i’m already working on my birthday set for this year (the big three-oh)!

also...i want to touch on 2 things that have been bothering me for a while now. when i started creating on patreon, i thought that i needed to offer something exclusive, you know, to say thank you to the people who choose to support me. make it worth their while. well - it turns out i was wrong, and i’ve felt pretty guilty about it basically the entire time. so i’m cutting this practice - i’ve just made months worth of ‘patron gifts’ public access. i think what i’ll do moving forward is have my early access sets, once or twice a month (depending on size), and continue with a single .package file as a patron gift once a week - but those will now also be early access rather than exclusive. i hope you can support me in this decision. it feels like the right thing to do, the same way dropping my tier prices felt like the right thing to do.

the other thing is that i’ve seen lots of discussion lately about half-finished work, and i’m actually quite proud to say that this discussion hit me right in the pride and i realised that i have been guilty of this for the longest time. if you examine my work, you will note that there is not a bump nor a spec map in sight (for the most part). i really, truly hate the whole cube map system, but the truth is i was too lazy to learn how to make it work for my style. well, i’m happy to say those days are over my friends. i am now confident in my specular abilities, and have seen the error of my ways. please accept my apologies for my lackadaisical attitude towards these aspects of creating in the past. i will do better.

lastly. i would like to say thank you to those in this community that call out the two issues i’ve mentioned above. it shouldn’t take someone jumping up and down about these things for someone to take action and change their behaviour, but sometimes that is exactly what it takes.

psa: taking a break + tier changes.

hi loves, just popping in to let you all know that i’ll be taking June off to reset my brain (and hands, and eyeballs).

also...from June onwards my tiers will be changing a little bit. if you’re already subbed to the $2 tier - outback (support + weekly gifts) your subscription will go down to $1.

if you’re subbed to my $5 tier - ocean (early access + weekly gifts) your subscription will go down to $3.

i’ve thought about this for a long time; and without rambling, here is my thought process:

- i don’t do this for the cash, i have a full time, well paying 9-5. it’s just a bonus, and a little reward for the countless hours of my free time that i spend creating content (but i do that because i love it, not because i have to).

- while it’s nice to receive a little ‘thank you!’ in the form of a few dollars, i really want my content to be as accessible as possible, to as many people as possible. if you look at my blog, 99% of my content is already free to you, with the exception of current sets in early access. i feel like lowering the price of my tiers will give more people the opportunity to get that content, sooner, if they would like to.

i think thats it really. its not hard; i like what i do, i like doing it for you, and i think the financial reward should be a small bonus since this is my hobby, not my job. 

i would also really like to have a functional website by the time i come back, to make downloading free content easier (i know patreon can be a bit tiresome to scroll through), but i don’t want to make any promises on a timeframe here, so let’s just say it’s a wip!
