when james stewart makes it’s a wonderful life it’s the quintessential christmas movie but when i threaten suicidal ideation on christmas suddenly i’m the bad guy
In the song Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer, the lyrics make it clear that the eponymous Grandma died.
Even if she was not immediately killed by the hoof to her forehead, she was laying unconscious in the snow the entire night of Christmas Eve and was not found until the morning of Christmas Day. Even a healthy elderly woman would have died of hypothermia in those circumstances, not to mention an elderly woman who had severe head trauma.
The narrator states that the family is dressed in black and that "it's not Christmas [Day] without Grandma." You could make the (frankly ludicrous) argument that it's Christmas without Grandma because maybe she is hospitalized, but then why would the family be dressed in mourning clothes? The entire family being goths seems unlikely.
The song was recorded in 1978, a time in which the nascent goth subculture was in its infancy. Are we to believe this was an entire family of multigenerational goths who existed a year before the release of Bauhaus' seminal "Bela Lugosi's Dead?" AND if the entire family were goths, wearing black on Christmas should not be noteworthy enough to mention. Any rational person should come to the conclusion that like Bela Lugosi, Grandma is dead.
Any adaptation in which Grandma survives is historical revisionism.

Babe. Babe, are you ok. You've been listening to Vince Guaraldi's "The Great Pumpkin Waltz" (1:28 – 1:48) composed for the 1966 Halloween TV special It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown on loop for hours, babe.
*pleased*
