Guys, this is my first time so please don't judge πππ
---
The library was almost empty when you arrived, the soft ticking of the old clock filling the silence between turning pages.
Saku Natsuzawa sat in his usual spot by the window, one hand supporting his chin while the other lazily flipped through a novel. Sunlight caught the edge of his dark hair, making him look even more distant than usual.
You hesitated before approaching.
"Mind if I sit here?"
He glanced up.
"...There are other seats."
"I know."
"...Then why this one?"
You smiled. "Because you're here."
For a brief second, he looked caught off guard before quietly returning his attention to the book.
"...Do what you want."
You took the seat across from him.
The silence wasn't awkward. It never really was with Saku. He wasn't someone who felt the need to fill every quiet moment with conversation. Somehow, simply existing in the same room felt... comfortable.
After nearly twenty minutes, you sighed dramatically.
"I'm bored."
"You brought three books."
"They looked more interesting on the shelf."
"...That's your own fault."
You laughed.
"There it is."
"What?"
"You made a joke."
"I didn't."
"You did."
"I stated a fact."
His expression remained perfectly blank, but you noticed the faintest hint of pink dusting the tips of his ears.
Cute.
Without thinking too much, you reached across the table and gently poked his cheek.
His eyes widened.
"...What are you doing?"
"Testing something."
"..."
"I was right."
"About what?"
"You're actually adorable."
"..."
He stared at you as though you'd spoken a foreign language.
Then, almost imperceptibly...
"...You're strange."
"I'll take that as a compliment."
"It wasn't."
"Liar."
You expected him to deny it again.
Instead, he slowly closed his book.
"...Come here."
"Hm?"
You leaned closer.
Before you could ask why, he lightly flicked your forehead.
"Ow!"
"Now we're even."
"For poking your cheek?"
"Yes."
You rubbed your forehead dramatically.
"You're so mean."
"You'll recover."
"...Can I poke your cheek again?"
"No."
"What if I ask nicely?"
"No."
"What if I buy you coffee?"
He paused.
"...What kind?"
You grinned triumphantly.
"I knew you had a weakness."
"I didn't say yes."
"You thought about it."
"..."
"...Fine."
Your eyes lit up.
"Really?"
"...One poke."
You reached over carefully and gently tapped his cheek.
"So soft."
"..."
He looked away, pretending to be interested in the window.
"...Don't say things like that."
"Why?"
"...Because..."
His voice became quieter.
"...you make it difficult to think."
The words were so unexpectedly honest that your own cheeks warmed.
"...Oh."
"..."
"..."
Neither of you spoke for a while.
Eventually, your fingers brushed against his on the table.
You started to pull away.
Instead...
His hand quietly turned over, allowing your fingers to slip between his.
He never looked at you.
"...You talk too much."
You smiled, squeezing his hand gently.
"And yet you're still holding it."
"..."
"...Just read your book."
"Only if you hold my hand while I do."
A long sigh escaped him.
"...You're troublesome."
"But?"
His thumb lightly brushed over yours.
"...Stay."
For Saku, that single word meant far more than "I like you."
It meant don't leave.
And for now, that was more than enough.
