Nexo Knights/Ninjago (DR) Crossover - Ideas/Headcanons/Summery Plot - Jay and Nya are Clay's Parents - part 2
It's been barely a week since the sky split overhead and Knighton is still in semi chaos. The Capital is mostly in-tact, not including the battle damage; a random wall or roof is missing here and there. However, a large amount of Knighton's outer villages are just straight up missing! Messages from strangers found in the outskirts have welcomed Knighton to the "Merged Lands" and to get used to it. Mentioning how their realms joined it a few years ago and their is no escaping it.
At the mention of other realms, Clay worries the whole mess is somehow his fault. That activating his other worldly powers triggered something and dragging everyone else along. Merlock for all the tension between them at the moment, tells Clay that is highly unlikely. Doesn't completely banished the concerns the blue knight feels. The other knights try to cheer him up, but its not really working. Macy mentions that her father is reaching out to try and form alliances with the new neighbors and maybe they could join him on diplomatic missions. Not her favorite thing to do, but they could look for Clay's original people while on them. Aaron and Axl egg her on wanting to see what sort of cultures are out there (ei, food, tech, music), Lance claims he wouldn't mind spreading his greatness.
Clay knows what his friends are trying to do and while he's grateful for the attempt, he's too tired to even bother acting excited. There's a lot for him to catch up now that he's not cursed, and monstrox is finally dealt with. On top of this he's constantly thirsty, and migraine prone now. Clay isn't sure if it's a side-effect of his powers or not, but it's not helping. He mentions this while visiting Jestro in the hospital, the jester recovering from his second round of evil possession (turns out long term lightning in the body lead to nerve damage!). His old friend might have betrayed them twice, even if not intended, but Jestro is still the only one out of anyone to have any contact with Clay's mother. Clay didn't really hide anything from Jestro during that initial convo after the battle, kind of hard to when everyone saw Clay summon water straight from the underworld or something (the video was circling Knighton since). With a mostly clear head, Jestro is just shocked mostly to learn about Clay's origins, and the water trick was really cool in of itself. However, he doesn't really remember much from when he's possessed, the people would never let him forget and he does deserve that, but it was like asking for a memory from a nightmare on an mushroom trip. Ruina wasn't much of a talker either. Though, Jestro is able to recall her mentioning that she had missed thunderstorms.
Clay is disappointed with the lack of information, but thanks Jestro anyway. Jestro claims its the least he can do, since well everything. He's pretty sure the docs are going to kick him off to prison when he can finally hold a spoon steady again. Clay tries to comfort his friend, but he isn't sure how a second possession claim is going to hold up for the jester in court. The knight promises to visit again soon.
At this point Clay's certain the only place he's ever going to get answers is from Ruina herself and they have no idea where she or her minions ran off too after the battle. Not an answer in sight.
Jay's been in Knighton for a few days at this point, slowly making his way through the remaining barrier villages, hiding Jiro in the nearby forest, getting the lay of the land so to speak. In terms of realms, this one wasn't as bad as some of the others Jay had seen by this point. Technologically advance civilization with this renaissance theme to it? Why not? At least it's not froze wastelands, ghost everywhere or whatever was going on in the Kingdom of Madness. He takes solace in the fact that Nya could've survived here, with her engineering skills it would've been easy for her to find work to support herself and Clay. Jay just needed to figure out where that happened.
Waterton is the first big city Jay tries. Source of most of the kingdom's water, yeah Nya would come here if only to be close to her former element since Knighton, being landlocked, didn't seem to have many beaches. He spends two days looking through the town when he stumbles onto some kids watching the new footage of the attack on the capital. Jay asks about the video and where he can find it. That evening he downloads it and goes frame by frame to see what is happening. Some sort of true potential discovery no-doubt, likely his son's. Jay is upset he missed that. Nya trained their boy so well if he took a rock monster by himself. At 10 no less! He can't see his face through the torrent of water around him but Jay knows and he couldn't be more proud. However those hopes are quickly dashed away when he sees a general or something on the villains side, zooming on her Jay finds Nya's face carved from stone. The image is fuzzy, her flesh mutated, but he would know her face. Jay doesn't sleep that night, too scared for his family.
When dawn finally arrives it comes with the cries and screams of civilians under attack.
Meanwhile Clay and Robin, with nothing but their own curiosity, have taken to testing the blue knight's new powers. Seeing if Clay can move things other then water, how much water can he move, can it be effected in other states. Clay is well aware that Merlock is watching them and likely making his own digital notes, but Robin is always so excited so he can't say no. Only problem is the sessions make his head aches worse. Lance keeps saying Clay should see a neurologist, but he doubts his friend suggestion would help. He's pretty sure its exhaustion from his new abilities, and just needed time to adjust.
Still despite all the tests there were still so many lingering questions. What was this power used for? Why was it so different from the Nexo powers? Where did it come from? All questions and only Ruina knew the answers to them. Honestly, Clay was scared to ask them too. His mother was corrupted by dark magic foreign to their people, maybe she wasn't all there. She seemed to recognize him, which had this weird level of comfort it gave him (Meant his wasn't forgotten), but that love could be twisted by what ever was poisoning her. Merlok was working on a cure, but it could be years before anything bore fruit.
In an attempt to mend things Merlok offers the items that Nya left behind after he petrified her. It's not much but Clay agrees. In the drawer in the back of the Library is apparently the baby blanket he was wrapped in so long ago, and an oddly shaped necklace that Clay can't make much sense of. It looked like a coin that was broken in half down the middle, large enough to fill his palm, and metal stunningly painted with ocean waves in black ink. Some sort of inscription in a language Clay couldn't read along the edge. He's not sure of the meaning but starts wearing it around anyway. Maybe it would help jog his mother's memory. Lance, being the self proclaimed Jewelry expert, asks to see it and he's not even sure if its made of bronze or some other metal with a color stain. Its not flashy enough for him, but he's pretty sure that it's one of those friendship necklaces, meaning it's half of a charm and supposed to fit together with another necklace. It's another puzzle, and it only makes Clay want answers more. This is supposed to mean something, and he can't even read the words along the rim. Ava offered a translation algorithm, but it would be long shot since they have no other record of the language.
The only way they would be getting real answers would be from the woman herself.
And they didn't even know where Ruina was!
Ava sent out a distress call, Ruina was attacking Waterton.
Suiting up for this mission feels different, yes he's been fighting evil for a while now, but this isn't his friend possessed by an evil book. Deep down Clay knew that Jestro wasn't all that dangerous...to people at least...property was another matter entirely, but he was always sort of like that with his clumsiness. Clay barely knew anything about his mother. She had been underneath Monstrox's thumb, and they had no idea how she would act as a free agent now.
Ruina set her minions loose on the village. Her mind is muddled but she knows this is where most of the water came from and the water needed to be gone. Water was powerful, but if not carefully handled it could take too much. It would steal more then ones breath if given the chance. It would steal her baby if she didn't save him from it. Like the Ocean once took...what did she lose again?
