you’ve known oikawa for quite some time now. not long enough to be considered real childhood best friends, but long enough that everyone associates you with each other. looking back, every good memory you have from your past usually contains him.

it was quite frequent the two of you would go out together. carnivals, concerts, amusement parks, you’ve done it all with him.

and today was no different, today would be spent with expensive amusement park food and him. and while it felt all too normal; something felt different all at the same time.

was his smile, always like that?

and his laugh...was it always that melodic?

you’d laugh the thoughts away quickly, filling the empty space in your mind with one of the cheesy jokes he told all the time.

the day was spent running around crazily with oikawa. only occasionally riding rides as he was quite the scaredy-cat; even if he insisted it was you. however the time you were most looking forward to was finally here.

the fireworks.

“y/n we’re gonna miss them, come on!” he yelled.

he was running ahead of you looking back in your direction; waving his hand signaling you to follow.

and as the first firework flew up into the starry sky; life paused for a slight second.

the only thing you could see now was oikawa.

the waves in his hair that were so delicately designed, his smile that lit up the dark night, the excitement that was running through his body.

and it hit you.

as friends, or something more you weren’t entirely sure. but you knew this feeling was once in a life time.

“y/n?” he stopped, raising his eyebrow at you.

you snapped back into reality once you heard his sweet voice; and time began moving normally once again.

you quickly sat down to admire the beautifully lit sky, as you always did with him.

however now you were entirely more focused on the person who sat next to to you rather than the fireworks.

normally you’d be asleep— well, at least getting ready for it. it wasnt your fault that you got sidetracked and stayed up ‘till 3am you’d say pretty regularly. however, today was different. you arent even getting into your comfy clothes for the night; in fact you arent even in your home. instead, you’re sat on a towel that faced the dark ocean. and of course next to you was your boyfriend, atsumu.

you laid next to him, looking up at all the different stars that lit up the sky— him of course doing the same.

“are you cold at all?” he asked, turning his head to face yours.

you turned your head as well, making eye contact with him before lightly smiling, “maybe a little bit.”

he grinned back at you, before moving slightly closer, holding you by his side.

“better?” he asked.

in response you just nodded, snuggling yourself ever so slightly closer.

you sat in silence for quite some time; it wasn’t the awkward kind though. in a time like this, words weren’t exactly needed.

“you know,” atsumu began to speak lightly, “theres so much i want to say right now, but i dont think i really know where to start.”

you didn’t anything in response, instead you began tracing circles on his hand to let him know you were listening.

“i really love you so much, i dont think you’ll ever understand just how much you mean to me.” he looked down at you— this whole time his focus was more on you than it ever was the stars.

“and seeing you so,” he paused, “so— i dont know, sad? it hurts so much sometimes knowing i cant just get rid of all the things that hurt you.”

you cuddled under his arm and threw your arm over him. neither you or him focused on the stars now— which was the main intent of this date.

“i dont want to tell you to just be happy because i know it isnt like that, but please never give up trying okay? im always here supporting you!” he smiled down at you, pulling his arms around you tighter.

“so lets just stay like this awhile, okay?”

you nodded, trying not to let him see the fact you were tearing up.

“i love you so much atsumu.”
