Not sure what’s worse about This is Going to Hurt: knowing that this stuff isn’t fictional, or knowing that Adam’s book was written in 2007, before a decade of further destruction to the NHS under a Tory government

I think the humanisation of NHS workers and the system itself is such a big part of This is Going to Hurt. It would be so easy to pretend that it’s this untouchable thing that never gets it wrong and never fucks up. Adam Kay knows better than anyone that doctors are human, and they fuck up - even more so when the system overworks them and doesn’t give a shit about them. Asking the question of why our NHS is failing (because the government starves it of funding, then throws money at it with no sense of where it’s going, then refuses to pay NHS workers a decent wage) is the most important thing that show could be getting across right now
