Grace is a scientist recruited somewhat against his will to help research kaiju (basically the same as the beginning of phm movie)

Rocky is an engineer working on building a jaeger called the Hail Mary¹ 😮

Adrian works with grace in The Lab™ 

NOW HERES WHERE SIMON COMES IN

He used to pilot this older jaeger called the SM-13² for Eden³  Simon at some point fought a higher class Kaiju⁴ and ended up losing his arm and maybe got kaiju goo in his eye or something

SM13 basically scrapped after that but now Simon is called back to pilot the new Hail Mary jaeger!! cause he was the best in the biz idk

He tries to drift with a bunch of other possible candidates, but none of them can handle his Evil Blood Trauma™ so either he finds someone to drift with or they pick a new person

Through Rocky/Adrian Simon ends up going to the lab and meeting Grace and the two hit it off <3

Happy ending, Grace ends up being able to drift with Simon and they pilot the Hail Mary together

Bonus points if their first mission is defeating a Kaiju nicknamed Sun Eater or something similar⁵

¹ new and possibly solar energy related (if I could draw mechs there would be so much petrova line symbolism) ² in the first pacific rim movie they say older models run on dangerous nuclear power so maybe there was the equivalent of the “photo flash” death like from the iron lung movie where Simon accidentally killed a technician or something ³ a different base on the Pacific (possibly Korean based cause idk Mark) but it's more strict and had that doomsday mentality (def not a cult right?) ⁴ Code name: Ellie (looks like blood eel) ⁵ astrophage reference :D

There are so many parallels it makes me sick /pos

Ryland being a scientist/last choice pilot but agreeing to do it because it was SIMON'S CHOICE augh

like Grace just trying not to panic while controlling the Giant Robot and Simon is just processing how hes never trusted someone more in his life .. .

also using this as an exuse to draw Grace eating skittles right next to a kaiju specimen!

OH AND this is the last thing- Stratt pulling the "you dont even have a dog" line to get him to come along, BECAUSE BASICALLY THE SAME TALK HAPPENS IN THE FIRST PACIFIC RIM??? like when Stacker comes to get Raleigh from the wall??? > "Haven't you heard, Mr. Becket? The world is coming to an end. So where would you rather die? Here, or in a Jaeger?"

I can watch like… maybe 5 edits at most and then I have to exit the app bc if I don’t I’ll start sobbing over Simon

Summary:

“-Awake!” Rocky trilled, poking Grace’s forehead repeatedly as he slipped out of the heavy-handed grasp of sleep with a gasping breath. Glassy eyes darted around the room, hungrily drinking in their surroundings. With one last tap to the forehead, his eyes slid back over to his best friend. “Heart rate increase, Grace hurting himself, leaking! Stupid, stupid, stupid leaky space blob. Why hurt self, question?”
