Spy x Family DSMP au with Niki as Billy Squire. Wilbur is the Biddy equivalent, except best friend instead of child because I cannot see Niki as a mother figure and also that would just be weird.

Niki then becomes radicalized and joins the Syndicate (the Red Circus of the au. Similarly it also used to be a student led group, one that Wilbur was a part of). Tommy is Anya, lowkey does not know what he’s doing but successfully bullshiting his way through with the power of plot convenient misunderstandings.

Niki is a loser. As in she’s always losing but i guess she’s also a loser as in she’s pathetic lmao
Like she does have cool moments okay, Niki did not take any of Schlatt’s shit and she’s fiercely stubborn. But also most of the time she’s just getting put through the wringer and she is not as much of the effortless nonchalant girlboss type that I’ve seen some people try to push on her. She is so chalant actually.
Dsmp fans try not to write Puffy as just the token perfect therapist with no life other than helping main character Tommy with his trauma challenge impossible.
In a Tommy centric fic most non main characters are going to be there in relation to Tommy and not be 100% canonically accurate fully fleshed out depictions of the character. Literally every fic that's centered around one character will have other characters written in relation to the one character and don't tell the entire life story of every side character in that fic. That's why most Tommy centric fics about trauma and healing don't have puffys entire arc with the egg.

I do not think you need to tell a female character’s entire life story in order for them to be more than a prop with literally no substance. It is possible to write women, and characters of all genders, as side characters that the narrative doesn’t focus entirely on without making them caricatures or cardboard cutouts made solely for the plot.
The problem isn’t that Tommy centric fics have Tommy as the protagonist of said fics, nor is it the fact that Puffy is delegated to the side character role as a result. It’s okay that she has less screen time in those fics. The problem is writing female characters without nuance, because believe it or not nuance is something that is still possible to write even when a different character takes the main spotlight.
The reason why I singled out Puffy specifically is because other people have already talked about how some Tommy centric SBI fics flatten the other SBI members, but I’ve never seen anyone talk about it in reference to Puffy despite her also commonly showing up in this way.
