The First World alternative to the evils of communism as depicted in Star Trek’s original series is a fundamental part of its imaginary. listing out its socialistic worldbuilding elements or racially diverse casting is still adhering to that First World view, which depicts an idealised version of modern capitalist society, whose populace reaps all the benefits of a robust social welfare system (borrowed, helpfully, from the same left-wing political projects that the First World is seeking to wipe off the face of the earth) while still maintaining its colonial extractive relationship to the rest of the world and its fundamentally unequal economic system.

I was just talking to my pookie about this the other day but the fact that we’re like almost a century removed from immediately recognising as audiences that Spock’s design utilises pretty much every single cue of classic Hollywood’s visual language for yellowface 1:1 does a lot to launder ST’s image in the eye of modern viewers as #woke even by modern standards when the racial diversity of the cast was, at best, primarily intended to depict the inevitable future of western society as utopian while still finding ways to depict the East as intrinsically barbaric in juxtaposition to that(by orient-coding non-human alien civilisations.)
