Our New Resident
This is Dyad the Destroyer. He has actually been with us for around a month.
My favorite thing about keeping fish
You learn about things that have never been written about and witness strange and mysterious behaviours.
Think all zebras are striped? Think again. This International Zebra Day, meet a spotted zebra. This individual, photographed in Africa’s Masai Mara, exhibits darker-than-usual pigmentation and a spotted coat—the result of a rare genetic mutation affecting its melanin production. Zebras like the one pictured here are extremely uncommon. Scientists think that such mutations can hinder an individual’s chance at survival, making hiding from predators much more difficult.

THE SECRET LIVES OF DINOSAURS, written by Dr Dean Lomax - Palaeontologist and illustrated by Bob Nicholls Art, is OUT NOW!
Sounds interesting
the egyptian vulture is small vulture found from the iberian peninsula to north africa, west asia and india. like many vultures, a large portion of their diet consists of carrion - however, they are opportunistic feeders that eat a variety of found foods, and willing hunters. they predate on small mammals, birds, and reptiles, and are known for their love of feeding on the eggs of other birds. large, thick-shelled eggs are difficult for the vultures to open, and they have been recorded using tools to access the inside of the egg, such as dropping rocks onto the eggs to crack them open. egyptian vultures have also been recorded using tools in other ways - they use twigs in order to roll up found wool to bring back for use in their nests. adult birds’ plumage is white overall, with black flight feathers. they also have notable bright yellow facial skin, which is bare as in other vultures. wild birds often appear brown or rusty in color from contact with iron-rich soil. the egyptian vulture is currently considered endangered by the IUCN. with few natural predators for adult birds, most of the threats to wild populations are human-influenced, such as poisonings (both accidental and intentional), hunting, pesticide accumulation and collisions with power lines.

If you’ve never seen one of these birds in person, you’re missing out. They are truly regal birds. Elegant. Strong. Intelligent.
They feel otherworldly. Like this bird might be sent by one of the gods.
If you’re ever in St Louis, stop by World Bird Sanctuary and meet Dynasty. His presence alone will move you. He’s just a truly beautiful bird.
What a beautiful week it has been! Ice storms are enchanting, making cathedrals from cliffs and chandeliers from trees. As I carefully walked about, I could hear the Earth sweetly singing. As ice slid and fell, it made a twinkling sound. I have heard this sound before, but never to this degree.
Plants from GreenEscape Came in
The big violet was given to me by my mother. Apparently, our taste in plants is similar... The moss was given to me by our yard (mostly the sidewalk, actually). I am still waiting on two more plants before I call my terrarium complete. I did buy two begonias from them as well. Snowy and Blue Betsy. Updates will be given on them when they grow a little more.
I thought this random chair in Frankfort, KY was kind of cool

Poor Richard's Books, Frankfort, KY
Part two of my pictures from Kentucky's State Capitol Building.
When I went to Frankfort, KY, to visit Poor Richard's books. I stopped by the new capital building. I will post a second part for the interior of the building. It is pretty cool. They give free tours every hour, if I remember correctly.
What happened
Are you surprised to see a post from me after so many months? I kind of am. After I had to shut down the website, and just started working to earn some money to survive. I had a lot of time to think and reevaluate myself. Where do I want to go from here? How do I achieve my goals? Is Emerald Labyrinth still something I want? Do I want to bother with social media at all? Where did I go wrong?
I now realize I was making the right steps. It's just my gait was a little odd, and my pace was much too fast. It wasn't until I got tired and stopped in my tracks that I could see all the beautiful things that I had just been walking by. One step at a time is just fine. Instead of taking a picture because I have to, I want to take pictures because I want to. I want to write because I want to write and not worry about how that may affect Emerald Labyrinth's sales in the future. And that is why I am returning to Tumblr and Tumblr alone. No YouTube, Bluesky, Pinterest, or Instagram. Because I want to, not because I have to. I want to share the weird and wondrous knowledge that I find. Pictures of everyday beauty that we don't think to notice. My experiences with the Musicorum and now Starrium.
Starrium is what I am calling a 20-gallon terrarium I got maybe a week ago... It isn't really set up yet. I am waiting for some plants that I ordered to come in for it. I will be sure to share that process with you all. I was actually pleasantly surprised to learn when I logged back in that pretty much no one had left me. It makes me happy to know that people like my content enough to stick with me.

ok, not to get people ragging on books, but what's the worst book you've ever read? or the one that if you could, for completely personal distaste, you could remove from the world, which would you choose?
mine is Atonement by Ian McEwan for that man's stupidly warped sense of justice and morality.
I don't usually remember books that I dislike... usually I end up putting them down and forgetting about them. Two that I remember specifically that I dislike are Lolita and Pillars of the Earth. Both are books that you think could go really well and might have interesting moral lessons. But then they decided to like throw it off a cliff and skin it alive. They leave you feeling sad and grossed out.
