i am by no means team green but i will defend alicent hightower anyday. i think rhaenyra should definetely be the queen on the iron throne but i donât think sheâs a saint. what most of you seem to miss is the fact that neither of them had a choice. what alicent says in s3ep3 sort of sums it up - will you blame me only for what men have done? i believe alicent wronged rhaenyra but not out of sheer will, rather because she had to do it, as it was her duty as a mother and a queen. she was puppeted her whole life in ways rhaenyra would never be, yet as a queen, rhaenyra had to sacrifice so much as well, not just of her own people but others too, including alicent, which is something alicent explained to her in this episode as well - she is to be changed by the crown and it is simply something that you have to endure. theyâre both quite complex characters, not just because of their nature but because of the roles they had to play and because of the people they were surrounded with. this is why i love this show, these two are not ideal protagonists but we learn to understand them regardless.
