8, 9, 17 & 34 (Cordelia&Aemond). Have a nice day ❤️
Oh thank you so much love, you too!! 💘
8 - Do they fear being forgotten?
Cordelia does, though it isn't something she actively thinks about. One sign of this fear is that she isn't good at being alone. She and Aemond both have been sidelined and forgotten to an extent their whole lives, but the way they cope with that is very different.
9 - Do they fear death or what comes after it?
Both of them fear death, but I don’t think Cordelia fears what comes after it; she might even see it as a blessing. However, she still wants to live a good life and perform whatever duties she thinks she needs to.
For Aemond, I think his fear of death is directly tied to his desire for legacy. His decision to go to the Gods Eye (also in canon) could be attributed to him wanting to make an impact before he dies. I'm not sure he believes in a traditional afterlife... maybe in some form. If he does, it's probably not the kind Cordelia imagines. If anyone has any thoughts on this, I'd love to hear them!
17 - How do they cope with the knowledge of their own mortality, or the mortality of their loved ones?
I answered this one for Cordelia here already. To put it simply, not well. 😭
Aemond also copes terribly with death. I think the idea of his own mortality haunts him constantly, even if he doesn’t allow himself to consciously think about it. Ironic, given how much death he’s caused.
34 - When thinking about themselves, are they a soul, a consciousness, or a body? Do they think as I, we, or you?
I love this question! Cordelia thinks she is all three, but since she believes in souls, I’d say that comes first. She thinks of herself as I, a singular identity. Aemond, on the other hand, thinks he is both a body and a consciousness. Does he believe in souls... my first instinct was no, but I think he does, just not in the same way as Cordelia.
Aemond also thinks of himself as I. However, I believe he views his bond with Vhagar as a union. The ancient Valyrians practiced blood magic to bond with dragons, and I personally subscribe to the theory that there is something deeper there, perhaps some kind of soul bonding? The way I write Aemond, at least, sometimes shows him ”feeling” Vhagar’s emotions, and vice versa. So, I guess in a way he thinks of himself and Vhagar as we, a unity.
