“I don’t think anyone could have expected that blizzard,” he agreed with a nod. “But you all handled it well. The second day still went on, after all. Maybe not as smoothly as you could have wished but like you said it was alright in the end.” Or at least as far as Mason knew about it all things had been fine. Sure a lot of people had been stressed, Elsa probably more so than anyone else - having to deal with it both from the business front of running winter village as well as a council member. “That’s good at least, that you can relax now. And take a break.” Glancing over at her, he gives her a knowing smile. “Or multiple of them.”

It was weird to talk about the blizzard to Mason when he didn’t know about her magic. Not to mention, the awkward encounter between her, Anna and Hans during it. She kept it to herself, though, still trying to process what happened and what was yet to come. “I suppose so,” she agreed, though the lack of confidence in her tone was pretty obvious. “Multiple of them?” She repeated with a smile and eyebrows raised curiously, glancing in his direction as she continued to walk beside him. “What do you mean by that?”

elsa was practically impossible to read. eris had learned that fairly early on, accepting that this would be one person she wouldn’t be able to sway quite so easily. but, instead of deterring her, it only made eris all the more interested. a challenge was something she was hardly presented with, and eris moreno had never met a puzzle she couldn’t solve, a game she couldn’t best. and she was certain that with enough time and patience elsa arrendelle would fall the same as any pawn on a chess board does. it just meant she’d have to pretend to like her. “perfect,” eris smiles, the gesture warm and inviting even if eris could never be classified as those things in truth – not that many people on this island knew that. “i’m open to anything honestly. but you don’t strike me as someone who likes ot be around too many people,” the woman hardly spoke with any of their other council members and rushes out of a room as if spending more time than necessary with any of them would cause her ruin. which, fair. half of the people who held council seats were idiots. “so perhaps bella note? the owner always offers me a private table away from the main floor.” 

Elsa was still hesitant toward Eris, even though she had accepted her help with controlling her magic. She wanted to trust her, but she still didn’t understand her own magic fully, so she was also feeling unsure of Eris’ magic. Deep down, she hopes understanding and controlling her magic would make it easier for her to open up more. Eris did seem to be nothing but kind and helpful toward her, though… Was Elsa really about to put blind trust into this woman? A fellow council member, one who understood magic and was willing to work with hers, it only made sense, right? Elsa tucks a loose strand of hair behind her ear as she listened to the woman, a small smile forming at her comment. For someone she hardly knew, Eris seemed to already understand Elsa’s boundaries, and she respected that. Even her sister would try to get her to be in more public places, not fully understanding Elsa’s isolating ways. Her response was surprisingly genuine as she smiled and nodded her head, “That sounds perfect.”

as expected, elsa has some sort of sad tale to attach to her explanation of why she regards magic the way she does. and as expected, it’s the last thing eris wants to hear right now. but, she suppresses the instinctive urge to roll her eyes and scoff – works even harder to suppress the mocking ‘boohoo’ that threatens to expose all the things eris is thinking. “people often are,” she frowns, refraining from what she truly wants to say about elsa’s parents. small minded people foolishly fear the things they can’t control, but she’s not yet sure how elsa feels about her parents and it seems it’ll do her more harm than good to speak poorly of her dead family. “as for your sister, the important thing is she’s alive and well. but i understand, i’ve been there. it’s hard to control it, especially when you’re young. sometimes innocent people get hurt.” it should be noted that eris does not understand – any harm that had ever come to her siblings due to her magic had always been premeditated, but, she could paint on a sorrowful expression, she could soften her words and make her tone gentle as if she had suffered the same sorrow elsa had. hopefully relating to her woes (or rather lying about it) would make the blonde trust her just a little more. “well, if you allowed me,” careful choice of words, letting elsa think she would retain any control in this arrangement at all. “i could help you understand your magic, figure out what triggers it, how to control it properly if you want.” because gloves in the summertime really weren’t the most inconspicuous thing in the world. “so you don’t have to be so afraid of it, for your sake and your sisters.” 

Eris’ response was no surprise to Elsa — she knew people were often afraid of others’ magic, which was another reason she kept it a secret for so long. Elsa was scared that others would be scared of her, and everything she knew would be ripped away from her — her seat on the council, the family business, her sister — it was too much at stake for her to take the chance of coming forward about it. Sure, Eris was open about her magic and supported others into doing the same, but Eris was far more advanced and knew how to control her magic, while Elsa hardly trusted her own magic. Although, she was surprised to hear that Eris had been in a similar situation, her gaze hesitantly meeting the older woman’s as she listened. It was the first time she found someone she could somewhat relate to, someone who wasn’t judging and instead offering comfort and, better yet, help. Her and Anna had discussed finding someone familiar with magic to help her, but she hadn’t expected to find that through a fellow council member. She hesitated, allowing a moment of silence to fill the space between them for a moment before she nodded her head. “Alright, I’ll take your help.”

Following behind her as instructed, Mason kept up the same routine as usual and waved goodbye to her secretary as they made their way further from her office and towards the exit. “Coffee nearby works for me,” he agrees with a nod, turning to offer her a grin. The truth was he hasn’t been that great - so much confusion taking over all the good things that he did have going on at the moment. But he wasn’t ready to talk about all of that quite yet. Didn’t even really know where he would start if he even wanted to. So instead he stuck with a semi-truth and raised his shoulders in a shrug. “I’ve been good. Busy but not too bad. How about you? How did everything go for you guys with the Winter Festival?”

Elsa noticed that Mason didn’t seem to say much about himself as she asked, though she decided not to push it. If he didn’t want to talk about things, she had no room to judge — after all, she was a walking example of keeping her problems to herself too much. “It went okay — the blizzard was an unexpected turn of events but — everything turned out alright in the end, I think.” Her response wasn’t as confident as she had wanted it to be, but it was the truth. Although, the council was still talking about the blizzard, and she wasn’t sure when the talks about it would finally die down. It still made her anxious just thinking about it. “But now that it’s over, I can finally … breathe for a minute, and not have to be stuck in my office as much.”

“Not as beautiful as you, though,” she promises, grinning wide right before a blush warms her cheeks as Elsa holds out a napkin to her. Taking it with a thankful smile, she’s careful to wipe at her lips and just hope she isn’t messing up her makeup too much. “I am! What about you?” Bunching up the napkin in her hand, she looks around a bit for a moment to see if there’s anyone coming over towards the two of them. Once she decides the coast is clear, she turns her attention fully back to her sister. “Having fun with this mysterious date of yours?”

“You’re just being modest,” Elsa shakes her head, though her smile was still present. She looks around at everyone nearby as Anna wipes the chocolate from the corners of her lips. “I am too, surprisingly,” she admitted rather happily. Even though the events were never really her thing, she was having a good time so far. Immediately noticing her sister look around, she raises a curious eyebrow until she hears the question she’d been waiting for Anna to ask. She’d been avoiding talking about her date since she first mentioned it to Anna, but she knew her sister would find a way to question her eventually. “Well, sure, I mean …. ” she was clearly blushing by this point. She tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear nervously. Anna didn’t know much of anything about Elsa’s secret dating past, so even though this wasn’t Elsa’s first real date, it felt new for her to talk to her sister about this sort of thing. She continued to try to brush it off, but she had a feeling Anna would ask more questions anyways. “… It’s really not a big deal or anything..”

Lock held onto her hand in his, pulling her closer to his side. In between the people he almost feared loosing her to the masses, unsure of where to move without pushing anybody. The tentative friendship that he had been trying to build over the past coffee interactions had given him the confidence to ask her to the ball. Wanting only the presence of somebody that he could talk with, but also remain in silence together.

“I mean, of course. What’s a ball without some dancing? Unless you’d rather not?”

Elsa was never really this close to someone; she felt strangely warm as he pulled her close to his side and held her hand, almost forgetting about her usual chill that she always seemed to radiate. She wasn’t sure what this meant for the two of them. Maybe it wasn’t serious, but this was the first time Elsa was willingly on a date with someone publicly, even if she was still keeping it on the down low to her sister and others. “I’m not opposed to it. Although, my dance moves might be a little rusty.” 

philip perrault was here out of obligation as opposed to desire. anyone who knows him should be aware of this information, not even batting an eye when he forces conversation where needed and retreats back into himself when it’s all said and done. he imagines elsa arrendelle, of all people, might be here for the same sense of obligation. out of everyone else who holds a seat on the council, phil always finds himself gravitating towards the blonde. theirs was a companionship forged out of necessity, taking their family’s seats on the council far younger than planned and finding that transition in itself a good enough place to begin their bonding – their slow, gradual bonding. he never deluded himself into thinking they were friends, more than aware the blonde kept people at arms length and he only imagines she does it for reasons similar to his own. but none of that matters to phil right now, spirits high and smile on his face as he approaches elsa with two glasses of champagne and a smile. “elsa!” he greets, far more enthusiasm in his voice than there probably should be, but he’s just happy to finally run into the one council member he actually likes. “you’re still here? i’m shocked.” under normal circumstances he wouldn’t just assume the blonde he was speaking to was the one he was thinking of, but the white satin gloves are a dead giveaway. “how is your night going so far?” @elsarendelle​

Elsa had been expecting to be interacting with some council members while she was at the masquerade, though she expected the conversations to be forced and out of obligation. She was instead surprised, however, to be approached by Phillip, the one council member she actually enjoyed talking to. They weren’t friends, per say, but they definitely had a closer connection than she had with any other council member. His initial enthusiasm was a little surprising, but she also found it strangely welcoming. She greeted him with a genuine smile. “Nice to see you, Philip.” For once, she wasn’t just saying that to seem friendly — she truly meant it. “I am.. I guess I’m full of surprises tonight.” It was true, between bringing a date to the masquerade and staying longer than anticipated, it was surprising for herself and others that knew her. “It’s going well, how about yours?”

With a half-eaten tangerine chocolate semifreddo in hand, Anna walked around the ballroom, taking a bite of her dessert every few moments as she made her rounds. It likely wasn’t the best look to have - eating while roaming around and waving at all of the official people she knew and should probably be stopping to talk to - but Anna had never cared much for following proper etiquette or living up to her Arendelle name. That was always Elsa’s thing, not hers. But with that thought came the reminder of how her sister never wanted this life… And a rush of guilt hit her as she realized maybe she should be trying harder to take some of the burden off of the older girl. Which is why she sets the glass down before approaching her sister, in attempt to seem at least a bit more professional - though the chocolate still on the corner of her lips gave her away before she could even say anything. “Elsa,” she greets with a wide grin and excitement clear in her tone. “You look so beautiful! Not that you don’t always look beautiful - because you do - but wow!” @elsarendelle​

Noticing her sister approaching her, Elsa gave a friendly smile. Lock had mentioned he’d have to help his sister with something for a minute, so she didn’t mind spending some time with Anna while he was busy. She was still being a little hesitant to talk to Anna about her dating life, though there was no particular reason why. Really, she was so used to being secretive about these kinds of things, it just seemed normal to her. “Thank you, Anna. You look beautiful as well,” Elsa replied, though she couldn’t help but notice small traces of chocolate on the corner of Anna’s lips. She giggled and offered her a napkin, “I can see you already got into the sweets.. Are you having fun?”

Another chuckle at the way Elsa still claims that the gift was a surprise. As if it weren’t both her birthday and Christmas - two times of the year where almost everyone knew to expect gifts of some kind from their friends or loved ones. “Only you would consider it a surprise after all this time,” he comments before raising his shoulders in a small shrug. “You really don’t have to, but I know better than to try fighting you on it - so alright. A coffee would be nice.”

Elsa smiled at Mason’s response, knowing he was right but not wanting to admit it to him. Glad he agreed to a coffee, she waved for him to leave her office with her. “We can just grab coffee nearby so we don’t need to drive,” she suggested as she began to leave her office beside him. “How have you been? I’ve been so busy recently, it feels like we haven’t talked much.”

It was the answer she was expecting and one that makes sense, but Anna can’t help but feel like it might have been a little fun to try to climb the tree. Maybe she should go outside after this and try to climb up one of the ones that are bit more sturdy and in the ground. “In the attic,” she repeats with a nod. “Should I go get it now or do we want to finish up the bottom half first?”

Elsa wasn’t surprised that Anna had thought of climbing the tree, but not only did she want to give Anna a great Christmas, she also wanted to give her a safe Christmas. She had already accidentally hurt Anna when they were children, so she didn’t want her to get hurt again under her supervision. “Let’s finish the bottom half first,” she answered as she opened the box she had brought in. “It looks like this box has more ornaments we can use.”

Barely giving Hans any thought, it wasn’t until Elsa’s cold words were directed at her that Anna fully stopped. Blinking a few times, the corner of her lips twisted downwards into a frown as she watched her sister turn her attention away and towards Hans instead. Maybe she shouldn’t have been discussing this type of thing in front of him and maybe she could have asked in a nicer way - but this was too big of a situation for her to just ignore and not talk about. Though with the way Elsa was reacting, Anna couldn’t stop the moment of self-doubt and paranoid thought that perhaps this was going to push her back into seclusion. With that in her head now, the blonde suddenly became determined to change the topic and try to fix whatever mess she may have just unintentionally made. “Okay,” she agreed with an enthusiasm that was quite obviously forced. Watching her sister for a moment longer, Anna followed along after her lead, turning to the man and offering a smile at him before leaning down to tickle at his daughter’s stomach. “Come on, Hans. Today you’re going to learn the most precious Arendelle family secret - Mother’s hot chocolate. We should probably also try to find something for little Lily Rose too, huh?”  @hansoftheisles​

Nodding along as Elsa speaks, he tries to seem as interested as possible, doing his best to act as though he’s buying whatever nonsense she’s spewing. “Well that really does sound interesting Elsa, we’ll have to talk more about it later.” He lets the subject drop for now, the tension that radiates between the two sisters making it perfectly clear that they don’t intend to talk about it for a second longer. “Wow, you trust me enough to let me in on such an important secret?” Hans teases, laughing lightly. He’s sure that the hot chocolate is hardly a serious secret (though he does know that Anna takes chocolate far too seriously), but it’s no question that she’s grown to trust him even though she certainly shouldn’t. “I’ve got something for her in here.” He pats the diaper bag slung over his shoulder, knowing very well that it’s packed to the brim with anything he could possibly need. There’s no way Poppy would pass Lily Rose off to him for the night without making sure he had everything he could possibly need. “Is everything okay with you two?” Hans asks as he follows Anna to the kitchen, keeping his voice low in case Elsa is still in range to hear them. “You both seem a little tense. What’s wrong?” While it’s unlikely that it will be this easy to get to the bottom of whatever secret they’re hiding, this is as good a place as any to start. @elsarendelle​

Elsa didn’t mean to come off so harsh to her sister; the pressure of having Hans nearby didn’t help much as she tried to steer the attention off of herself. Though, the way Anna’s lips curled into a frown made Elsa regret the way she had reacted. It was tough to be caught in the middle of this rather awkward gathering, and it didn’t help having to lie and make up excuses to the guest to protect herself and Anna. Anna didn’t seem to fully understand why Elsa kept her powers a secret, but in Elsa’s eyes, she was protecting the both of them by hiding her powers. Between the strange interactions she’s had with Hans in the past and the perplexing vibe she seemed to get off of him, she especially didn’t believe this man should know about her magic. As Hans responds to the two of them, Elsa’s eyebrows instinctively narrowed, eyeing him suspiciously only for a moment before leaving them to grab some blankets. It gave her plenty of time to compose herself, taking a deep breath to calm her nerves. Her fingertips felt cold and antsy, as if her magic was practically begging to be of use. She didn’t want to grab her gloves and make Hans more suspicious, so she stuck to the task of grabbing enough blankets for everyone. It didn’t take her too long to find blankets in the hall closet, nicely folded and stored away for guests. Although, guests seemed to be very rare in the Arendelle household, so they didn’t get much use. She entered the kitchen a few minutes later, setting down the folded blankets on the counter. “I hope these will be warm enough for everyone. Did you start the hot chocolate?” @skatinganna​

Tonight was about more than just a dance for Lock.  Sure he wouldn’t deny himself the fun of dancing with a couple of people if they asked. Of course he’d be dancing with Elsa as much as he could, after all he had asked her to come with him. But tonight would end one of two ways; with him in jail or dancing peacefully.  That’s why when he turned to look at Elsa, with a smile on his face, it was in earnest. The happiness was honest and truthful for that moment. 

“I might disappear for a bit through out the night, but i promise to stay by your side for most of it.” he said, nodding his head at people in greeting. “I made a promise to my sister to help her with something, and it’ll take me away for a second. If anybody asks, though. I was by your side all night.” @elsarendelle​

Elsa was a little nervous about the masquerade. Truthfully, she didn’t really like the events, but she ended up going to most of them because she was typically expected to. Though, it was rare for her to actually have a date with her. She wasn’t sure why she was surprised when Lock asked her to go with him, but truthfully, he was probably the one person she was comfortable going with. She did like the masquerade aspect of this event, for she felt like she could at least lay low behind the mask and not feel so out of place and in the spotlight while surrounded by so many people from the island. Elsa smiled in return at Lock, nodding her head as she listened carefully to his words. “Okay,” she answered simply, not bothering to question it as she held out her gloved hand out to take his. She was feeling a little shy but also somehow comfortable around him. “Did you … want to dance?”

The crackling of the fire was like background music to the gentle mood of the whole experience. Enveloping him in the atmosphere of a gentle hum that spread across him. Eyes slightly closing as he began to ignore the world around them, lulled into a sense of familiarity. Lock missed a childhood he had lost, and the harsh reality he had been thrust forth into. A deep sense of longing for what once was with its imperfections and blindness, but so faithfully his. Now he belonged to nothing an everything, a lost soul weaving his thread through countless moments.

“Oh? You’re calling my name? Tell me more,” he teased, a smirk pulling at his lips. “You should keep up with the times. Might miss the gossip.” Laughing he tilted his head back, staring at the wide sky looking back at him. “I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. With how amazing i am.”

Elsa’s eyes were focused on the fire in front of them, allowing the warmth to consume her as she relaxed with the person she was surprisingly comfortable around. She didn’t quite understand it, really, but she tried not to question it and instead accept it for what it was. It wasn’t everyday that she was willing to be this close to someone, even if they weren’t very close at all. “If I told you more, it would only make it less mysterious,” she answered with a small smirk. “Hm.. I think I’m content with missing on the gossip, if I’ll be honest,” she looked at Lock with her smile still present as she replied. His laugh made her laugh a little as well, especially as he began to compliment himself. “Okay, now you’re just being smug, but … I guess I can’t say that I disagree.”

Elsa always thought that mistletoe was a strange tradition for the holidays. Who thought it was okay to plant mistletoe in random spots to force people to kiss under? Especially since Elsa wasn’t a fan of PDA in general, the idea of mistletoe just didn’t settle well with her. So as her and Lock are together for their usual coffee meet up, she can’t help but scrunch up her nose slightly at the sight of the mistletoe above their heads. She knew Lock had seen it, as well, though he seemed to be ignoring it, which she was a little thankful for. Though, it seemed like people nearby were staring at them ( or maybe Elsa was just feeling self conscious ); she felt her cheeks heat up slightly, and instead of caving into peer pressure and kissing him like most people would’ve done, she went with a small gesture instead. She leaned close and placed a soft, gentle kiss to his cheek, which was probably the most PDA she’d ever willingly initiate in front of other people. Her cheeks still slightly red, she glanced from her coffee back to him. Maybe the gesture seemed small and silly, but for her, it was a sign of trust and comfort, for she would never do that to just anyone. @lockbordes​

It had been a long time since the Arendelle sisters fully celebrated the holidays. For Elsa, the holidays were a hard time of year, where she seemed to miss their parents the most. But, closer to Anna than ever before now, she wanted to give her sister a great Christmas. Entering the room with another box in hand, she looked at the tree for a moment before looking at Anna . “I don’t think climbing it will be the safest choice ..” She answered as she set the box down nearby. “We might have a ladder or step-stool in the attic?” @skatinganna​
