The hand that isn’t holding his beer raises between them, twitching downwards like he’s physically shoving any of Mike’s other questions back down where they came from. “It was a stupid thing to ask.” Mike shakes his head, then scoots forward, inching closer to Will. “It’s not,” he insists. “If it’s you asking, it’s not stupid, Will.”

”You could — say that,” Will said, haltingly. “I just. You’re the only one in the party who’s been on dates and stuff that aren’t with someone they’ve been seeing for years, and I need to know how to do that.”

El made a strange noise he couldn’t decipher. There was the muffled sound of someone covering the receiver, and a sound not unlike a tea kettle going off, and then El was back in his ear and saying, “I see.”

When they move into a new apartment as juniors, Will decides he has to learn to get over Mike. Going on a bunch of dates with new guys will definitely make things easier, and they’ll both be very normal about it.
