So I have some free time coming up, and like 3-4 Elmabby plots I could explore next. π€
Which Elmabby arc would you want to read first?
(Teen) Elmo trying to impress Abby's biological father
(Young Adult) Elmabby Breakup in College/Reunion a few Years Later
(Adult) Elmabby New to Parenthood
Other (Drop in tag or comments)
Elmo and his pooch <3
WAIT
SO I was looking for reference images for Elmo and Abby and CAME ACROSS THIS TARGET SHIRT??
WHAT!
LIsten, at first glance this image looks a little more intimate compared to their usual poses? I DON'T MEAN IN A BAD WAY. HEAR ME OUT.
This is sweet, lovely. πAbby is gently cupping his cheek/chin. It honestly exudes more softness to me of their bond than their usual promotional images. It presents a gentle kind of vulnerability and close trust. That kind of tenderness between the dearest of friends is very, very wholesome and heartwarming.
SO I'm yearning for the context!
Like, did Elmo hurt his cheek or have a toothache or something and Abby is trying to comfort and soothe him? Was he sad/crying about something and she JUST wiped away his tears?
ALL MAKES FOR GOOD SCENARIOS. π
And if this image is legit from the Sesame Workshop website, YOU'RE NOT TELLING ME THEY DON'T SHIP THEM, OKAY?
They've made it "subtly obvious" without outright saying so over like the last decade (trust me, I've been steering this SHIP and tracking their official content for years)! But SW is getting bolder and bolder with the Elmabby signals now. π
Not complaining but....they're practically admitting they'll grow up to be canon at this point! π
I'M JUST SAYING.
Growth of Childhood Besties to Crushes to OTP trope FTW!
I still love them! β€οΈ

A Little Magic and a Lot of Love
Posted: 6/15/26
Pairing: Elmo/Abby Cadabby
Age: Like, 21. Newlyweds!
Summary: Elmo's not feeling well. Abby takes care of him. π
A/N: I normally approach Elmo with the mindset that he grows out of speaking in the 3rd person as he gets older, but wanted to explore a different fic where he still speaks in that style to see if it could still work for his character.
--------
The rain tapped softly against the windows of the small apartment that Elmo and Abby Cadabby had moved into only three months ago.
It was the kind of rainy afternoon that normally made Abby want to curl up with a book and a cup of tea.
Instead, she stood beside the couch with her hands on her hips.
"Elmo," she said firmly.
Elmo glanced up at her from beneath a mountain of blankets. His orange nose was redder than usual, and he looked thoroughly miserable.
"Abby, Elmo is fine."
Abby raised an eyebrow.
At that exact moment, Elmo sneezed so hard that he nearly dropped the tissue box.
"...Elmo may be slightly less than fine."
"You have a fever."
"A very small fever."
"You've been coughing all morning."
"A tiny cough."
Abby couldn't help laughing.
Even after getting married, Elmo had never stopped speaking in the third person. He'd simply grown into it somehow. It sounded less like a little kid now and more like a charming habit.
"Stay right there," Abby said.
"Elmo wasn't planning on going anywhere."
"Good."
She marched toward the kitchen.
A few moments later she returned carrying a mug of hot tea.
Unfortunately, she was also trying to use magic to carry a bowl of soup at the same time.
The bowl floated neatly behind her.
For about three seconds.
Then her concentration slipped.
The bowl suddenly zoomed across the room like a rocket. The plastic bowl cluttered against the wall. Elmo jolted upright.
"ABBY! You okay?!"
The soup flew in a perfect arc.
Fortunately it landed directly on the coffee table.
Unfortunately it landed upside down.
There was a long silence.
Abby stared.
Elmo stared.
The soup slowly dripped onto the floor.
"...Well," Abby said, "at least nobody got burned."
Elmo sniffled.
"That's a surprisingly positive way to look at that."
Abby shrugged sheepishly, while Elmo gave a small grin and lightly shook his head.
---
After cleaning up the soup disaster, Abby tried a different approach.
She tucked Elmo into the couch and wrapped another blanket around him.
"You are not moving."
"Elmo feels like a burrito."
"Exactly."
Abby sat beside him and gently felt his forehead.
Still warm.
Elmo leaned into her hand.
Being sick was awful.
But being taken care of by Abby was kind of nice.
"You know," Elmo said softly, "Elmo is sorry."
"Sorry for what?"
"Ruining our weekend."
Abby's expression immediately softened.
"Oh, Elmo."
She sat beside him and took his hand.
"You didn't ruin anything."
"But we were supposed to go to the farmer's market."
"We can go next week."
"And the movie night."
"We can have it here."
"And the dinner reservation."
"We can order takeout."
Elmo looked at her.
Abby smiled.
"Being married means taking care of each other, remember?"
Elmo smiled back.
"Elmo remembers."
---
By evening, Abby decided to use a small bit of magic to help tidy the apartment.
Just a little magic.
Nothing complicated.
That was the plan, anyway.
"Floofle-fizzle-fairy-fix!"
Purple sparkles burst from her wand.
The blankets folded themselves.
The dishes stacked neatly.
The pillows fluffed.
Then every tissue in the apartment suddenly came to life.
Hundreds of tissues fluttered into the air like white butterflies.
Abby froze.
"Oh no."
Elmo blinked.
A tissue landed on his head.
Another perched on his shoulder.
Then the entire flock began circling the living room.
"Abby."
"Yes?"
"Elmo thinks the tissues are migrating."
Abby groaned.
It took fifteen minutes and three additional spells to round them up.
One tissue somehow ended up inside a lamp.
Neither of them ever figured out how.
---
Later that night, Elmo's fever finally began to break.
He was resting comfortably on the couch while Abby sat beside him reading.
The apartment was quiet except for the sound of rain.
Elmo shifted closer.
Abby looked up.
"Feeling better?"
"A little."
"Good."
Elmo rested his head against her shoulder, and she smoothly shifted so that his head lay in her lap instead. He closed his eyes and sighed as she gently carded her fingers through his hair.
"Abby?"
"Hm?"
"Thank you."
She smiled.
"For the tea?"
"For the soup."
"The soup that ended up on the table?"
"Yes."
"For the blankets?"
"Yes."
"The tissue invasion?"
"Maybe not that one."
Abby laughed.
"Fair."
A pause
"For taking care of me."
For a moment Abby said nothing.
"I'll always take care of you, Elmo. I love you."
Elmo squeezed her hand.
"Elmo loves you too." Another pause, "Elmo knows he isn't very fun when he's sick."
Abby closed her book. Then she leaned over and kissed his forehead. Elmo closed his eyes at the touch of her gentle kiss.
"You're my husband."
Elmo smiled, staring at her lovingly.
"And you're Elmo's wife."
"Last time I checked," she giggled. He grinned,
"Then Elmo thinks we're doing pretty well."
Abby squeezed his hand.
"I think so too."
Outside, the rain continued to fall.
Inside, surrounded by blankets, magical mishaps, and far too many tissues, the newlyweds settled in together.
And for Abby and Elmo, that was a pretty perfect evening after all.

This was done SO FAST as soon as I saw @creatingblackcharacters's post. I love Elmo so very much and I could never skip him
Side note, If I was perpetually 3 and a half and my friend kept using her pet rock to get out of things I would also crash out.
May Tumblr be filled with the power of Elmo <3
