Some of these will not apply to many people so pls take them with a grain of salt. Also Iâve been collecting these pretty much for the two years Iâve been in college so itâs not a guide, theyâre just⌠random I guess.
Making friendsÂ
Warning - specially tailored for super shy people aka me
Thereâs a thing called the âfirst week window of endless oportunitiesâ. Itâs when groups are still forming and everyoneâs desperate to make friends. This is the time to put your best self forward (Iâm not saying be fake, just a little extra friendly).
Leave. Your. Door. Open. Do it. Even if you have a roommate. Best way to make friends the first week.
Actually get out of your room. Youâre not going to meet many people if you hole up in your room. If you have a tv room or people are watching a movie, I donât care if youâre not interested in what theyâre watching, go.
If you have the balls to go to the room nextdoor and introduce yourself then you probably can skip this section by all means do it!
But if you donât, going from door to door asking for help with your laundry takes a lot less courage + you will learn how to do laundry. Asking to borrow something (pencil, hair tie, hair dryer) also works.
If youâre staying at a residence hall, ask to sit with people at lunch! Nobody is going to say no, i promise.
Similarly if you see someone alone, ask them to have lunch with you!Â
Also if you meet someone you get along with, as soon as you can, ask for their number âso you can go to the dinning hall togetherâ.Â
Remember peopleâs names - it makes people feel like you actually care about them. I know itâs hard but make an effort. Also it just gets annoying when someone asks about your name for the fourth time. Use mnemonics if you have to.
Asking what someoneâs major is and where theyâre from is standard procedure when you meet them but it doesnât make for an interesting conversation. Think of other questions!
Make sure to arrive about 10 min early to your classes. Thereâll be very few people and so itâll be easier to strike up a conversation (actually people will probably talk to you without you having to say anything which is g r e a t)
Say yes - as a rule of thumb, your social life should prevail over your academic life the first two weeks. This is the time where youâre not really pressed for time. Say yes to watching movies, say yes to going to lunch, say yes to going to campus events (and even to parties). Obviously donât do anything that makes you really unconfortable but do try to step out of your comfort zone
Make friends with an upper-classman from your same major. Or at least be on speaking terms. Talk to them on Facebook, ask them about your major, just use any random idc excuse to introduce yourself, it doesnât really matter how you do it.
Donât go home every weekend, even if you live close by. Youâll miss out on the best of campus life and some of the most fun memories with your new friends.
Keeping your old friends
If you know youâre going home for the weekend, try to finish most of your assignments/studying and make time to hang out with your friends. Spending time with them is the best way to keep those friendships alive.Â
But! Donât worry too much if you canât come home or make time for your friends too often, you just have to make an effort to text them regularly. It will come naturally if itâs your best friend, but donât forget to set a reminder to text other close friends at least once every two weeks.
You may think you donât care now but you will once you come home for the summer.
If any of your friends are staying in your hometown for college, be ready for them to get another friend group. That doesnât mean theyâve forgotten about you, but donât be mad if they seem to have a lot more plans that donât involve you. You can always ask to tag along some time and maybe even become friends with these people!
Some people youâll just lose contact with. Donât fret it.
Organization
Please print out or buy a calendar that has a whole page for each month. With boxes preferably *shameless plug*. You may think you have it all under control but thereâs nothing like being able to see all your due dates, hang out plans and laundry days at a glance. (Also js but the pilot frixion are perfect to use on calendars because theyâre erasable).
Thereâs so much space under your bed. UTILIZE IT.

Just completed and submitted the final version of my Extended Essay !!! °Ëâ§â(â°âżâ°)ââ§Ë°Â
So I compiled lists of words that I found super super useful in making it easier for me to finish any essay !! Here is a masterpost of some sort with transition words + key vocabs grouped together for easy access as well as an IB IOC âcheat sheetâ I used for my english LAL orals last year (though most commentaries follow a similar structure so its generalisable) ~
Good luck with your essays !!!
⌠oops just realised I forgot to bullet point one of the listsÂ

1. Madam C.J. Walker
Hair loss sparked Madam C.J. Walker (born Sarah Breedlove) to develop a line of hair-care products just for African-American women in the early 1900s â and her entrepreneurial efforts led her to become one of the first female self-made millionaires in America.
2. Naomi Sims

3. Beverly Johnson
American Vogue made history with its August 1974 cover featuring Beverly Johnson, who was the first Black woman to hold the honor. 4. Tracey Norman
Tracey âAfricaâ Norman was the first Black transgender model to land a major cosmetics campaign. In the mid-1970s, she snagged a contract with hair color brand Clairol. Norman didnât disclose that she was transgender at the time out of fear it might damage her career.
5. Lisa Price

Hello! I decided to post about how to buy stationery (in a kind of realistic way) beause almost every post about stationery Iâve read are more like a brand recommendations. Here youâll find a few things you should keep in mind before buying school supplies/stationery. But first, let me tell you that i loooooove stationery and what youâre about to read has helped me a lot when buying stationery.
1.-Before getting new stationery
Ok, so everytime I buy stationery I get excited and want to buy every cute/awesome (or even useless) things. Think before you go shopping, focus on the important things you need. Youâll save money because you are not waisting it in things you donât need. So, keep the following things in mind:
How are you going to organize your stuff? maybe youâll need new folders and loose paper, will you buy blank, dotted, gridded or lined paper? Maybe you want to use notebooks, how many notebooks will you need? Which size?
Do you need special supplies? like specific pens, pencils or paper for certain classes,
Small things like paper clips, pen refills, eraser, sharpener, scissors, etc are part of the Forgettable Things Team⌠Please, keep the Forgettable things in mind!
Do you need flashcards,post-it notes, page flags, etc..?
Do you have to replace something that is broken or doesnât work anymore? (like a calculator or a stapler)
If you want, write a list!
2. Brands and Aesthetic
Like I said at the begining of this post, this is not a brand recommendation. You shouldnât spend lots and lots of money on aesthetic brands or supplies you donât need just to fulfil an aesthetic. Yes, I know all the âstudyblr aestheticâ thing itâs cool, beautiful and everything but you donât need to be aesthetic to be a studyblr! Well, in case you want to fulfil an aesthetic, find your thing! Would you like your aesthetic to be minimalistic? Or you rather a colorful and flowery aesthetic? Itâs your aesthetic, you decide. Try different options, different brands and decide on what you like best. Find a balance between practicability, quality, price and aesthetic.
3. Money
Good stationery doesnât have to be expensive. Price canât define quality. A high-end pen, expensive notebooks or anything else donât help you to get better grades.
Get pen refills instead of whole new pens.
Buy only the notebooks you need! Donât buy a notebook if you donât know exactly what you are going to use it for.
If you are going to spend a bigger amount of money, make sure to spend it in things you will be using almost every day, for example a scientific calculator, a filofax agenda or a fountain pen.
When you use a bullet journal, the less important thing is the brand, it doesnât matter if you are using a Leuchtturum1917 or a Moleskine, the important thing is what you put inside it. You can make a bullet journal out of any joural you have!
Well, i think thatâs it. Those are my basic tips on buying stationery, hope you like it. :)
