Alek Wek interviewed as part of BBC’s ‘The 100 Women Interviews’

Doan Ly is the founder and creative director of a.p. bio, a floral design and photography studio based in New York City.

Born in Vietnam, she immigrated to the U.S. at the age of eight and grew up in Minnesota, where she snowshoed to school. Almost. She holds a B.A. from Stanford and an M.F.A. from Tisch School of the Arts, NYU.

Her work often revolves around the colors and flowers that pass through her studio, as well as the guests that visit, the assistants who work for her, and occasionally, even the lunch delivery man. Together they form an ensemble of performers, models, and subjects for photos and videos, all within the midst of floral design work large and small.

In this way, she hopes to integrate a sense of play and beauty to our everyday interactions.
