some of my favourite vídeo essays about art history:
whose migrant mother was this? the story of the native american woman who became the face of the 1930s depression (and got almost nothing for it)
bauhaus design is everywhere, but its roots are political how even a simple choice between what font to use can be a political act
edvard munch: what a cigarette means munch + tobacco = art? (yes we’re still on the topic of art as a political weapon)
art that was never finished how great masters sometimes even didn’t finish stuff. also! the history behind the colour aquamarine
fka twigs on mary magdalene (if you like asmr you’re gonna love this)
having a coke with frank ohara (technically not art history but this video is too good for me not to mention)
video postcard: woman at her toilette a quick dive into my favourite painting of woman impressionist berthe morisot
this documentary about georgia o´keeffe (that ive seen about 10 times)
david hockney on vincent van gogh on love of nature, beauty, attention, and the art of looking (essentially a mary oliver poem in interview format!!!!)
dante and the invention of hell short film about centuries of art depicting dante’s circles of hell, my favourite works possibly ever made were inspired by his writing (sky arts documentary so it’s not your standard v. essay)
who’s afraid of modern art: vandalism, video games, and fascism about the meaning of modern art and the publics response to it, as well as a political campaign to eradicate it or moreso make an example of the so-called ‘undesirable’ nature of their art
how to make communist art on the future prospects of art for art’s sake and creativity outside of capitalist restraints
Brigsby Bear, nostalgia culture and millennial optimism a little off topic but an essay about a film that questions our need to attach our identities to our past and our childhoods in particular, questionning whether we should put our faith into recreating our old loves or creating new ones - i think its relevant based on the films perspective on art
museum theft PLEASE watch this introduction if nothing else today, it will make you cling to the edge of your seat; truly a masterpiece

6 Types of Plot Forms
Hi everyone! Today, I’m going to be talking about the different kinds of plots you can use when writing a novel. It really comes down to personal preference and the kind of story you’re writing, however, you must always plot. Do not become a pantser. I am begging you! I’ve written an entire blog about it right here.
#1 Freytag Pyramid (traditional)
The Freytag Pyramid is the typical pyramid you’ve seen throughout school as a child. I hated it too. You start off with the exposition and some basic information like the setting and characters and then you start off straight with the inciting incident which goes into the rising action which is a series of events leading up to the climax. Then after reaching the climax of your story, you wrap things up with the falling action and finish with the resolution. I don’t like this method personally. I think it’s outdated and a torture device reserved for the public school system. Of course, if this is your preference, then by all means go ahead. New writers, be warned that this is definitely not the most detailed way to plot. It’s very basic and sticks to the most vital of plot points.
#2 Freytag Pyramid (Bell remix)
This is a bit better and more elaborate than the first on the list. It’s built in the shape of a triangle divided into 5 sections and each chunk of the separated triangle can hold important information on that section of the plot, and each section is weighted according to the triangle shape and its importance. Meaning the climactic events should hold more weight and information than the introduction. Again, not the best option if you want a more detailed plot.
#3 Interconnected Complications
This is actually something most film schools use, but it’s pretty much relevant for any form of storytelling, so here we are. It focuses on two main issues: progressions and transitions. Usually, about seven circles are drawn out, all of them interconnecting and they are labeled in order: status quo, inciting incident, problem/solution identified, pursuit of solution, struggle, resolution, new status quo or return to old.
#4 Three Acts
I’ve seen this plot structure designed in every fucking way imaginable, but we’re just going to use the basic one for now. Basically, the exposition, characters, and world are introduced in the first act. The inciting incident is also introduced in act one. The second act consists of the rising action and midpoint. This is where the challenged take center stage and the stakes are raised drastically. The final act includes the climax and resolution where the main character can be victorious or they still have work to achieve their goals and you plan to write a sequel. Again, not really my favorite, but do whatever the hell you want. It’s your book.
#5 Chapter by Chapter
Call me a meticulous fucker, but this is my favorite plotting method. In a bulleted list, I write out the rising action and climax of every chapter and correlate that to the rising action and climax of the entire plot. This method helps me write a lot faster and helps me keep plot points organized. I also usually color code as well to keep subplots organized.
#6 Staircase
Here, tension is built at a steady rate and it is often referred to as the staircase as that’s its exact drawn form. The climax and resolution are resolved fairly quickly.
That’s all for today! I know this was a short post, I’ll make up for it in the next one, I promise!

This is SO SO different from what I usually post but here’s some study tips which I use and find really helpful!!
Start studying early!
Print/write out the assignment requirements
Highlight any key info and create a reading list
Read everything on said list and make shit notes
Review the notes and improve them without the reading
Watch all of the relevant lectures and take decent notes
Plan paragraphs with all of the notes you’ve made
Use a thesaurus to improve any shit vocabulary
Write the essay/presentation out in full but as a draft
Edit the assignment
Submit :)
Take breaks!
If you’re revising for an hour then take a 20min break after before studying again
Break up your recorded lectures into 3 parts and take a 10min break between each
If you’re taking a quiz then take a 15min break and then review the results. If you need to revise anything then do that straight away
Read the necessary content (book/text/article/publication etc) and then take a 15min break before rereading it and taking notes
Chaotic academia is
1.) Intense obsessions that last maybe two weeks but consume your soul
2.) Spacing out in class but loving to learn
3.) Swearing and slang while discussing deep academic topics
it’s easy for hobbies to turn into things we avoid because of the pressure we put on ourselves. but i promise, u have nothing to prove. if u enjoy drawing, draw!! it doesn’t have to be museum worthy. ur baking doesn’t need to be master chef worthy every time you do it. hobbies are hobbies because they make you happy and u enjoy doing them. there is no pressure for u to become a professional in everything u enjoy; enjoy it for the lack of pressure. try and let yourself participate in things without tying ur worth to the final products. if it makes you happy, anything that comes from that is worth it.
