Itâs your first day in office, you were just sworn in as president, you arrive at the white house and are escorted to the oval office, as soon as you sit down Abraham Lincon and George Washingtonâs ghost emerge from their portraits, soon all the ghosts of dead presidents fill the room, they are here to help you be better than the previous presidents, even if their advice is a little⌠Dated

Neuroscience has advanced to the point that, for a fee, one can remove or cloud unpleasant memories. We are unable to change and create memories, but regretful, traumatizing, or otherwise harmful memories can be removed or be rendered harmlessly vague.
Itâs not long before some people decide to remove the memory of receiving sensitive information that they wished they hadnât acquired. others go as far as forgetting potentially dangerous secrets of their own.
What secrets do you hide from yourself?
You are the main character in a video game. Combat music is playing but you canât find any enemies. Anxiety starts to kick in.Â
After a while, nothing shows up, no enemy, nothing. Combat music is still playing. âIs this some kind of sick joke?â, you think to yourself. You look around once more, thereâs literally nothing except just miles and miles of sand. Youâre getting annoyed.
In an attempt to read the map, you cut yourself on the paper. Your health decreases, but not only your health, your enemyâs health decreases too, exactly the same amount.
Youâre really confused and decide to find out whatâs going on. You cut yourself on the paper once again, but this time on purpose. Your and your enemyâs health decreases, again exactly the same amount.
Questions start filling your head, âam I the enemy? No, no, no, that canât be. â Your thoughts change immediately when you look at the cuts on your arm.
These are not from previous battles, you did this to yourself. You are constantly fighting in one of the hardest battles, the one that is going on inside your head. It all makes sense now.
âI am the enemyâ
Water starts filling your eyes, and soon tears are running down your cheeks. All those horrible memories, all those painful thoughts.
Now, the only thing left to do is win this battleâŚ
You look at the sword in your hand, you donât want to do this, but you have no choice. You look death brave in the eyes, and stab yourself right in the heart.
All your feeling disappear, you feel nothing anymore. No pain, no sadness, thereâs just blood. Lots and lots of blood.
Just as youâre about to take your final breath, you see something in the sky.
RESTARTING GAMEâŚ
Then everything goes black. Moments later youâre back in your old room, with a razor in your left hand, but no cuts yet in your right arm.
âAnother chanceâ, you whisper. A smile appears on your face, you get up and start crying, out of happiness this time.
You won the battle.

Couples receive âparent pointsâ, which they can use to purchase their children. Most parents wait for a few thousand, but you chose to buy the cheaper, 100 point child.
Shane knows what itâs like to be a 100 point child. He knows how it feels to see potential parentsâpotential familiesâcome through the facilities doors, faces bright with excitement. He knows how it feels to see them reading the little plaques on the nursery doors, scanning the lists there for the right bits of knowledge and etiquette and grace that they want their baby to have.
He knows how it feels to see their faces pinch outside the window before they hurry to the next room.
Shane grew up in a 100 point nursery. They had torn, ratty, books and no teachers, and when snack time came, the tray was pushed through a slat in the door. They were called âunrulyâ and âdamagedâ and âstupid.â A lot of the other kids threw tantrums and broke furniture (and sometimes other kids). A lot of the other kids went quiet after the first few years when they realized theyâd never be adopted until they were old enough (or pretty enough) to be useful. A lot of the kids cried and didnât stop until they got taken away or were aged out.
Shaneâs grown up a lot since aging out. He put himself through school, got himself a job, shed his 100 points like the torn clothes heâd left the facility in. Heâs powerful now, successful, and heâs grown out of the twisted nose, big ears, and gap-toothed smile that had made him one of the less attractive 100 point babies. Or maybe heâs grown into them. Whoâs to say?
Itâs taken him a long time to get enough Parent Points to do what he wants. Being a man is, for once, somewhat hindering as most of society equates âparentalâ with âmaternal.â Heâs lost count of how many social workers have politely hid expressions of surprise when he told them he wanted to adopt stag, that heâs willing to take the classes, get the grades, make the oaths to get even one Parent Point.

You are the worldâs most successful marriage counsellor. Each case ends with a 100% satisfactory rate for both sides. One day, a rather unusual couple enters your office. Through questioning you find out that the two people in front of you are in fact Zeus and Hera. And they wonât leave until you fix their mess.
âYou two need a divorce.â As usual, Zeusâ fury was a sight to behold. It took all her years of experience as a counselor, and willpower she didnât realize sheâd had, to keep her composure. The conditions of her services had been clear, they couldnât harm her, but it was small comfort when Zeus is hurling lighting bolts around an indestructible room. Hera, on the other hand, was also perfectly composed. Once Zeusâ rage had played out and he stood glaring at at the counselor from behind the couch, she spoke. âWe came to you to fix our marriage. To salvage it.â She explained. âA divorceâŚâ âI donât fix marriages.â She countered. âLook closer at my testimonials. My help may have saved a few marriages, but what I do is help people fix toxic situations.â âOlympus must have a king and queen!â Zeus insisted. âAnd who made that rule?â She asked. Zeus didnât catch Heraâs faint smirk, but the counselor did. Of course sheâd known what her would recommendation would be. She was here because Zeus needed to think it was his idea. He went quiet at the question, the almost shocked, dawning realization that he had control here. âYou did, naturally. You defeated the Titans, and claimed the right to rule. But Zeus, think on it, why did you do it? Who expected you to rule? Why did you need a queen and why did the queen need to be Hera? And if youâre really honest with yourself, do you even want to rule?â She wondered if it was the first time Zeus had ever taken a moment for real introspection. Most likely it was. Hera was perfectly neutral in her expression, but the light in her eyes told the counselor more. The soft bell timer next to her chair went off. âWell thatâs all the time we have to today.â She said, closing her notebook. Zeus was still looking thoughtful. A stunned kind of thoughtful, but thoughtful nonetheless. âTalk to my secretary and heâll schedule your next session.â Zeus tried to argue, and Hera made a good show of it as well, but they had agreed to follow certain rules, and this was one of them. She did have other clients, after all. It had been Hera who agreed second, when Zeus had demanded she see reason. And there were other sessions. Six months before they finally decided to divorce. The news shook the other pantheons. The news of Zeusâ abdication in favor of his brother Hades shook them more. Stable, serious Hades, and his wife Persephone. It was better for the pantheon, and with Persephone in the mix, it wouldnât be boring. Zeus took to adventuring. Diving happily into his new, and old, roles as a god of the sky, thunder, storms, and lusty parties. Astronauts who venerated Zeus were almost sure to come home safe, and come home to the wildest parties. Hera, relieved of the almost obligatory jealousy Zeus had once elicited from her, became more focused than ever on her role. Suddenly there were breakthroughs in pre and post-natal medicine. Marriages became more stable than ever. Stable marriages mean poor business for a marriage counselor. She was glad her services were less necessary, but if things kept up like this, she would need a new career. The knock on the door interrupted her thoughts and she answered it. Her secretary had left months ago, finally marrying his husband and moving to the country as theyâd been dreaming of. She handât bothered to hire a replacement. Opening the door revealed, to her great shock, Hera. She looked different. The stony neutral expression was gone. She seemed softer. She had laugh lines. She was dressed causally, when the counselor had only ever seen her in business formal, with a shawl patterned in peacock feathers. She wanted to talk. Partly to thank her, and partly to apologize for essentially driving the counselor out of business. They talked of other things, mostly trivial, laughing at the latest antics of Zeus and his fellow thunder god, Thor. Most of the world never saw these things, but her encounter with the gods had left the counselorâs eyes more open than before. âThere is another reason I wanted to talk to you.â Hera said finally, setting her teacup down. âThere are other gods in need of a good counselor. Not just marriages but relationships that need help. Youâve seen the good that you can do with just one pair of clients.â The possibility excited her. She could help the world in ways undreamed of. âThat sounds incredible!â She exclaimed. âButâŚhow would it work? We canât have the gods parading in and out of the building on a daily basisâŚ.â Hera smiled and took the counselorâs hand, looking into her eyes in a way that made the counselor shiver and blush. âWhy donât we discuss it over dinner?â Â

A single mom moves into a new apartment with her young son, only to find out itâs inhabited by a poltergeist. At first sheâs spooked, but comes to realize that the poltergeist is helping to raise her son.
Iâd watch it.
Itâs like âThe Othersâ, except that everyone just kind of⌠gets used to seeing each other. There are two families sharing one house, and okay, one family is a bit dead, but theyâre all figuring things out as they go and itâs super handy to have a spare parent or two around.
*
âMom, Iâm home!âÂ
âSheâs out shopping, go do your homework.â
âAunt Ingrid, they didnât even HAVE homework when you were alive, why are you BUGGING me - âÂ
âWhen I was alive we churned butter instead of our mother going to the store to buy it, do you want to learn how to churn butter?â
âFine, okay, homework it is.âÂ
*
âDavid, donât walk through the walls.â
âOpening the door is too hard.â
âThen walk through the DOOR like your sister. Respect the conventions at least.â
âFiiiiiinnneâŚâÂ
*
âMom, what are you doing?â
âFixing the fence.âÂ
âUncle Roger, are you possessing my mom?â
âWe tried just having me tell her how to do it, but it was taking too long and she got frustrated.âÂ
âItâs WEIRD, though.â
âDo you want to do this?â
âNo, I -Â â
âToo late. Come and learn how to fix this. Youâre the man of the house now.â
âNOBODY SAYS THAT ANY MORE, UNCLE ROGER.â
*
âDid you have a fight with David?â
âNo.â
âThen why are you both making that face?â
âThereâs no FACE.â
âThatâs what he said.âÂ
âWe didnât have a FIGHT, okayâŚâ
âAunt Ingrid is worried, she says heâs been moping all morning. Heâs barely visible half the time.âÂ
âLook, we didnât have a fight, I just asked him how he died and then it got weird.âÂ
âSTEVE YOU DO NOT ASK PEOPLE HOW THEY DIED THAT IS SO RUDE.âÂ
âMom, it came up, okay, it wasnât just out of nowhere!â
âYOU APOLOGIZE RIGHT NOW.âÂ
*Â
âSteve! David! Isobel! Who broke this vase?â
âMeteor did it.â
âIt was not the dog! Which one of you was throwing things in the house?â
âNo, really, Mom, it was Meteor.â
âAnd how did the dog get up on the mantlepiece?â
âUhâŚâ
âISOBEL WERE YOU LEVITATING THE DOG AGAIN?â
*
âThis is completely inaccurate.âÂ
âRogerâŚâ
âI mean, look at those clothes. Iâve never seen *anyone* dressed like that.â
âThey werenât very careful about accurate costuming in these old movies.â
âI read ALL the Sherlock Holmes stories when they were first published and I ASSURE you he was a GENTLEMAN, not like -Â â
âRoger, will you just let us watch the moving pictures in peace?â
âBut theyâre WRONG.â
âWe donât care. Shush.â
*Roger mutters about bossy women and levitates popcorn*
*
âSteve, what happened to your face?â
âI got into a fight.âÂ
âI would surmise from your bruises that you lost.â
âI always lose.â
âOh, we canât have that! Come, I will teach you the manly art of fisticuffs.â
âROGER NO.â
*
âAunt Ingrid, can you teach me how to make pie?â
âOf course I can⌠why? I know boys do a lot of things now that girls used to, I understand that, but why pie?â
âI like pie.â
âI can make you a pie if you just want to eat pie.â
â⌠Ava likes pie too.â
âThat girl who lives down the street?â
âYeahâŚâ
âThen Iâll help you make the pie. What kind?â
âShe likes cherry.âÂ
This is beautiful. I love it!

Everyone is born with a tattoo somewhere on the body which tells of your superpower. Most of the time itâs obvious, like a flame for fire control. You were born with no visible mark and were enrolled into the Vague Society, a help club for people with really unclear marks. Tell your (and their) stories from the help club.
Upon entering into the Vague Club, members go through a rigorous examination of their bodies to make sure their Mark isnât just somewhere hidden. Many people are eliminated from the club in that fashion to ensure that their time isnât wasted.
After I pass through that phase they take and x-ray of my entire body. Thereâs apparently been some cases where people had a Mark embedded inside of them.
I can see that my case is special, as I begin going through multiple examinations.
They catalogue every pimple on my body, every follicle and scar. They pull out special needles to look through my eyes.
Itâs for no use, Iâm 19 now, and no one has been able to find my Mark. Markâs take the form of a tattoo, and your powers are derived from said Mark. A flame usually means you can manipulate fire, seers always have a third eye Mark on their head, as evidenced from the person currently examining me. Seers are rare, usually with there being one in about a million born. This is how I can tell I have an unusual case. They are extremely expensive, and getting ahold of one is very hard to do. Iâve had to wait for several years at the Vague Club to be seen. But to the Vague Club, the expense is worth it, as people with Vague Marks tend to be some of the most powerful.
But so far, thereâs been no one with that had had no Mark, and the seer in front of me seemed to realize it. They kept on going on about I had a great power in me, but that was all useless without knowing where my Mark was. You couldnât activate your powers without first knowing of your Mark, and then drawing from it.
The Vague Club helped people find their Marks, and then taught them how to use it, because most people develop with their Marks as children, and learning it as an adult is much harder.
Right now, there are about 15 other people in this particular Vague Club. My best friend among them is Riley, who has a Mark of a vortex hidden in her ear. My other friends include Tyler, who has a star Mark under his eyelid; Barnaby, with the Mark of a book just faintly visible under his fingernail, which had had to be removed to find it, and Julia, who has the Mark of light, which was a lighter shade then the rest of her skin, and was located on her foot.
Iâve had fun hanging out with them, but itâs difficult when they know, and are developing their Marks, as they become clearer with more usage. But they keep on supporting me, and make me feel welcome.
The seer in front of me finally gives up.
âItâs useless!â He concedes, standing up abruptly from the chair and moving out. âIâve looked into her future and power, but thereâs no hint of her Mark!â The helper standing in the room nods, noting it down.
âShe has the most incredible power source Iâve ever seen! She could do untold things, probably reshape the cosmos. Her power level exceeds all else by at least a hundred! But she has no Markâ. The Seer exclaimed.
The helper nodded again. âWeâve never encountered so difficult a case, the longest lasting case until her took less than a year.â
I spoke up, âSo, I donât have a Mark?â
âIt appears you donât, and as such, weâll going to be releasing you in two weeks. Weâve tried everything we can do, but if we canât find your mark in that time, weâre going to want to make space for someone that we can help. Iâm sorry, but it may just be that you have nothing.â The helper replied.
âWhat do you mean?â My head was fuzzy, until this point, they had always encouraged me, that I was worth something.
âThe Vague Club has spent an enormous sum of expenses on you, and now we know that it was all for nothing. Iâm sorry that we couldnât find your Mark, but we canât afford to maintain you any longer. Weâll continue to support you for the next two weeks while you find a means to support yourself. Again, I apologize.â
The helper led the seer out of the room, trying to look reassuring to me, that I could still contribute to society. But that was a lie; he was just saying bullcrap nothing to me. The Club had probably already come to the decision to get rid of me unless the seer found something. Because everyone else had Marks, itâs extremely hard to find a place to work unless you had a power associated with it. Every food and grocery store had people who could grow the food in front of you. Telekinetics could store and process products with ease, and they had the Intellects to monitor and compute anything you needed. The helper knew I wouldnât be able to find a means for myself. No Mark meant I couldnât get a job, as there were people with Marks that could do it better, so I would just have to live off of others.
And that was the worst part. In a world where everyone contributed, I would become the one who couldnât. I was good for nothing for anyone else. A nobody.
I slowly got up, and wandered to my room. Inside there was a terminal to the Intellects, a bed, and a myriad of posters hanging up on the wall. There were also some weights in the corner next to my desk. If I could do nothing, maybe it would just be better if I was nothing. Oh they would regenerate me, people with the Mark of the heart could do that, but they wouldnât if you left a note detailing you wanted death. The number of suicides today were almost nonexistent, like I was about to be, because there were Marks that could help those. They kept one in every Vague Club as well, because so many people feel helpless about finding a Mark. But now I knew that I didnât have one, while everyone else did.
After I finished the note, I grabbed a blanket and began winding it up. I was almost through tying it to the fan when Riley rushed in.
âWhat are you doing?!â She shouted, as she extended her hand. The blanket immediately pulled through a vortex and appeared behind here.
âIâm nothing.â I replied, seeing no better answer. âI have no Mark.â
âThat doesnât matter, you can still live, still live a life!â
I shrugged, than began reaching for another blanket, which disappeared as well. âWould you please stop that!â I shouted, and then reached for another.
Soon all of the blankets were piled outside the door.
Riley took a second, then raised her palm down the hallway, I quickly reached out and jerked her hand down. âDo not call the Psychic.â I growled, âIf I donât have a Mark then whatâs my purpose?â
She struggled to lift her hand up. I twisted, grabbing her other hand, which had begun reaching out, and grappled her to the ground.
There was momentary churning sensation, then I appeared back a couple feet from her. I quickly scrambled over just in time to pull her down again. This time, I balled her hands into fists, and tied them with a blanket. Then I went back to work, after ensuring no one else had heard what went down. Screams and rough noises were commonplace as people practiced using their Marks, but just to make sure, I put a blanket over the door to block out the sound.
âI didnât run away from home, friendless, just to find someone like you, only to have them kill themselves the second they lost hope!â Riley cried. âPlease donât take away my friend.â
âYouâd do better to find a new friend, Iâm entirely worthless,â I answered without turning back from my work.
âI thought I was worthless too, my father constantly told me so when he couldnât find my Mark. He didnât want to be disgraced for having the only child who had no Mark, so he tattooed one on me himself. He violated me to put a false Mark so that he could claim that it was just hidden. And now that Iâve found a friend who made me feel like Iâm not worthless. You arenât worthless, you mean something to me.â Riley sobbed.
âAt least you arenât nothing, at least you had a father who cared at least somewhat about you.â I retorted.
âPlease donât do this⌠donât make me see you do this.â She had turned around, and seemed defeated.
I finally finished. I stood up on my bed, and got ready.
But the world ended first.
I couldnât see anything but fire; I began coughing out, expelling black smoke. It was rare for someone to Snap. Snapping only happened when someoneâs Mark was removed, but doing so was extremely hard. But some people had Marks of chaos, Marks that continually changed and shifted, covering the whole of oneâs body.
And they were the reason the Vague Club sought so frantically to help people with hard-to-find Marks. Only the most powerful Marks could contend with them.
I turned up, and looked around more. In what was the commons, I saw my friends. I stumbled up; my death was no longer on my mind. I walked around fire and pools of chaos, which were slowly spreading. When I finally reached them, I fell down.
They were dead, Tyler and Julia. I couldnât see Barnaby. I quickly turned from the corpses as fires of chaos had begun burning them through.
Remembering Riley, I turned around quickly. She couldnât be dead too, as the chaos looked like it was emerging from the center of the building.
I couldnât see her.
Where was she?
I gazed out towards the city.
The city was gone.
I looked up, and saw evil incarnate.
A humanoid of a shifting Mark held up a cage of some of the other members that had Vague Marks. I saw Riley with them.
It was moving away. And my pain grew, coming out in a haunting scream. Maybe if I hadnât been so distracted with myself, I couldâve saved her.
I wanted that Chaotic Marked person to be gone. To become nothing.
As my Mark is nothing.
The cage began falling from the sky, so I willed the gravity there to become nothing. And so it was.
Before the cage hit the ground, it was pulled through a chaos portal, as another one of the Chaotic Marked came in.
They were gone.
She was gone.
So too the other Chaotic Marked become nothing.
I was nothing.
I am Null, Zero, In-between. My Mark is nothing, as I can make others.
And I want something back.
HOLY SHIT
