elias!

“you’re totally not allowed to judge how much i eat though because i may be small but i need a lot.” 

“i’m anything but judgmental, promise! you eat away to your hearts desire and i wont think any different of you.”  

“are you really going to make me guess the other half?” 

“considering you’re new to all of this? i’m not sure you’re ready to know.” 

“i’m still in the learning phase, does that mean you’re a witch then?” 

“sort of. i’m a hybrid. so i’m half witch, half something else.”

“that’d actually be really cool –– thanks.” she said with a nod. “i’ll totally pay.” 

“oh really? cool, that’s really cool of you. um, thanks, you’ve got a deal then.”

“very recently i the know.” she said with a nod. “i take it you’re a supernatural then? considering not many humans know.” 

“yeah, but, i’m not the bloodsucking, turn into a werewolf, killing kind of supernatural. i mean, not that all of those guys are bad, but i’m hardly dangerous.” he reassured.

“no don’t apologise –– she was sick, it couldn’t be helped.” carmen said with a nod. she was a scientist so she understood these things. “strange is an understatement.” she joked. 

“hey, you lost your mother, let me be apologetic for just a second.” he said lightly, eyes narrowing. “and no kidding, this place isn’t like anywhere i’ve been before.” 

“i only got to town last week –– i don’t really know anywhere else to eat.” 

“i can show you around –– i mean, only if you want. i’ve been her a couple years now, so i know some good places.”

“well i’ve tried to kill one of them a few times and now i’m stuck with her, i think it’s karma.”

“poor girl. she must be some kind of supernatural for you to have failed then?”

“compared to some of the people in this town – i’d say i’m very normal.” 

“not originally but i lived here for a few years while i was growing up.” carmen said as she looked over at the other. “yeah i think everyone wants to run but always ends up back.” the human said to him. “this place has never been good for me but my family is here and my mum just died so i’m back for my dad.” 

“i’m sorry to hear that.” elias empathized. losing loved ones was never easy, but he had been around long enough to know that words hardly ever brought comfort. “i’m not from around here either, but it’s nice enough. strange little town, but nice.” he repeated. “familiarity is always good in times like this.” 

“Yes but it’s not like you take your besties to college. So that’s not really the case here.” 

“fair enough.” elias chuckled “guess i should have clarified and said it’s about finding the right people.” 

Ryder watched the other. “I’m not sure, really…she didn’t go in to detail,” Ryder admitted. “Don’t say anything to her… I really should learn to keep my mouth shut sometimes..” 

“fine.” elias caved with an over dramatic sigh, “i trust the both of you, but if anything gets out of hand, please tell me.” 

Evan nodded to the male. His smile was kinda of shy, yet bright at the same time. “I can’t wait. how come you didn’t make any notes?” he questioned. It was as if he was trying to keep the conversation going as long as he could. “ You know… I don’t think I can wait to see those books..” he admitted. 

“oh you know, there were already notes probably a hundred years old in there, last thing i wanted to do was come around and . . . taint that.” elias answered vaguely. he could lie enough to save himself, but sometimes his lies were bad, quite easy to see through. what sold them was his confidence. “i mean hey, i can go run and grab them or you can come with me. up to you.” 

Ryder nodded. “Yeah, well I will… if I can manage that… though I will start and try to control it all.” he stated. “Luna made me promise I would help her and she would help me..” he admitted not thinking before looking to the other. “Forget I said that” 

as elias frowned, his head quirked slightly. “what does my sister need your help with?” he asked, brows furrowing with genuine concern. “ryder, you can tell me. and if you don’t you know i’m only going to bother you with it until you spill.”

Evan watched the other and smiled. “That sounds, amazing, and I’m sure I would appreciate the annotations you’ve made… be interesting to see how you find the books..” he admitted with a chuckle. “it takes a very special person to appreciate those works of arts like that.” he stated. 

“oh they’re not my annotations.” elias lied quickly. the english was too old for the annotations to be modern and the handwriting alone would be a dead give away. “but they’re definitely interesting for sure. to see what the original owner thought, all those years ago. the writing’s probably why they were so cheap.”

Ryder watched the male and looked away at the mention of his having control. “Yeah…I haven’t really told many people… but my control hasn’t been the best lately… I kinda burned down that 7-11 in new york a few months ago..” he admitted. 

“oh man.” elias mumbled. “well even more reason to send them my way.” he said quietly. he couldn’t remember the last time he lost control like that. it had to have been at least a hundred years ago. “and if you need help with controlling it, i’m always here.” 

Evan laughed a little. “You could say that I suppose.” he clarified. “Yeah I guess they are… I didn’t really know my grams that much, but apparent she was some really good Bennett witch..” he pointed out. his eyes almost lit up at that mention. “Really whoa I mean that would be amazing… I have a few but they are getting harder to come by…” he paused. “that’s the only reason… cause people see me going to a dorm room and it’s gonna be everywhere..” he admitted with a laugh. 

“bennett witch.” elias repeated with a bit of a wistful look in his eye. he had known a bennett witch forever and a day ago, but that hardly mattered. shaking off the thought, he continued their conversation. “hey, don’t worry about it. i can bring a couple to you at some point. they’re annotated though, so i hope you don’t mind that.” he admitted, for the first time in the conversation seeming borderline shy.
