I personally imagine both Ryland and Simon take a while to adjust and be comfortable with physical touch, despite both being touch starved as well (thanks to trauma ;u;). So this would take place well after the long burn of slowly and naturally allowing themselves to feel safe and secure with each other to close that space. It's hard for them to trust anyone again, but I like to believe they choose to trust each other in the end.

After a great runaround the wizard has trapped the dungeon guardian with some simple conjured bait! It doesn't look like Themberchaud is going to squeeze out of that gap on his own, but he could easily make it bigger with some more conjured delights…

Frog

Dragonfish (family Stomiidae) are cunning predators. Although they are strong swimmers, they prefer to lie in wait and ambush unsuspecting fishes and crustaceans. Most have dark skin—pigmented with some of the blackest blacks known in nature—to stay camouflaged from their prey. Some dragonfishes dangle a luminescent lure from their chins to entice prey. When a tasty morsel comes close, their big jaws open wide, and sharp teeth snap shut.⁠ ⁠ The black dragonfish (Idiacanthus sp.) in this clip was spotted at 527 meters (1,729 feet) in the Monterey Bay area. ⁠
