The moment he sees her, he realizes that nothing is created equal. Case in point: her swords.
“Hey, what? How’d you get two of those bad boys when I only gots one? Guess mine’s pretty colorful, though.” He waves the gaudy, plastic sword around. “You think that evens ‘em out? Like, the colors make it twice as… I dunno, swordy?”
Rayla's eyes widen slightly at the realization of his observation. She never really gave it much thought, taking her swords for granted, even lamenting the fact that they were wooden instead of live steel.

all of this really could have been worse. at least that’s what he’s telling himself to feel better. after zym poked his head out from callum’s backpack, it attracted some bystanders… and not harmless-looking ones either. aimlessly running away conveniently led him to rayla – which the former dragged her away with him, promising to explain later.
“okay,” he says breathlessly. “i know you’re probably mad but think about the actual worst case scenario right now: we could be dead.”

Who’s tryin’ to kill us? ❞ She took a moment to assess her friend, she was glad to see him, but the situation didn't allow her the luxury of hugging him or catching up, and from a simple glance, both him and Zym looked unharmed.
