I just realized that tumblr has such an amazing thing as tags so somebody might actually read this. So here I am, bringing a little idea about the 12th season finale.

I was rewatching the Timeless Children some time ago when I realized something that had been staring us in the face… and i feel a need to cry out loud about it. Plan to write a fanfic too, but that never goes well with me.

The thing that we all missed 

(sadly including the scriptwriters)

Tt’s quite simple. It all starts with...

1. The Master saying that when he killed the Time Lords he kept the bodies.

Well, first time you watch, it’s ok. Killed them, one can mortally wound a Time Lord. Though preferably you should get rid of the body one way or another or he/she might regenerate to your face (so I though he literally burned them all up to this point). But let’s say there’s a way to permenantly kill the Time Lord without destroying the body or you just kill them till they run out of regenerations. The Daleks did kill an awful lot of Time Lords.

But let’s remember. “Time Lords”, “bodies”, “regeneration”.

And then, the second part. 

2. The Master showing how CyberTimeLords / CyberMasters can regenerate.

He shows it off as strength and an invinsible army who regenerate when you kill it. And then it comes.

The question. Let’s all imagine the wonderfull Clara and her amazing chalk board,

How can a dead time lord regenerate?

(the ‘regenerate’ goes to become underlined)

It kinda doesn’t add up. Either you are dead or you regenerate. Because regeneration makes you a whole brand new and healthy Time Lord. You might be able to control his/her mind, but it’s alive and quite healthy.  Doesn’t always work with humans, as you can raise dead bodies, but Time Lords can bloody regenerate. To change that altogether you need to to do the work similar to Tectaun all the way again, and even then it’s doubtful. The whole point of CyberMasters cool regeneration is that they go from relatively dead to relatively alive again, and even ordinary Cybermen have an alive human brain to keep them going.

Keyword: alive. Master could have raised properly dead Time Lords from the grave (the way Missy did with humans on Earth). But they wouldn’t be able to regenerate. Misses the whole point and then they wouldn’t be able to regenerate, and they were. If they are able to regenerate, they are alive. I’m fond of conspiracy theories, but it does ring like not a theory, but a fact.

So actually we are not in the situation where the Master has killed all of the Time Lords and made their bodies into awful CyberMasters.

Nope, he probably kinda killed Time Lords once, stashed them into some sort of cryo-chambers and then made them Cybers while controlling their mind.

Still bad, but kind of... the whole new message.

They. Are. Still. Alive.

And you can work with something when it’s alive. Especially when it’s something that can regenerate and get come back up in full health. Basically get them out of Cyber costumes, maybe work a bit on disassembling whatever the Master has done to their current (and future) brains... and we have Time Lords back.

So basically when the Master said he kept the bodies and THEN when he showed her how CyberMasters regenerate it wasn’t the final act of his voctory.

It was a perfect chance for the Doctor to realize that the situation isn’t what it seems. That there’s still a chance to save them. That there is a way. Not all hope is lost.

To see the way she turns it around. The perfect chance to be the Doctor.

I’m not particular Gallifrey-defender who hates the idea of it being properly dead (though each time I rewatch ‘The Day of the Doctor” I am; just for the Doctor if not for the rest of the Time Lords, just all that insane amount of effort and history going to waste).

But it’s just so perfect, and totally in accordance to Doctor & Master dynamic --  where the Master makes up some ingenious huge plan and the Doctor manages to find a loophole integrated in that very plan, usually the one the Master considers his biggest strength, and then the Doctor proceeds to use that loophole to wholly dissassemble the Master’s plan -- that it’s such a shame for it to go to waste.

It’s a perfect loophole. A perfect way to see the height of the Master’s supposed triumph actually creates a way to completely reverse all the damage.

Yes, it’s a chance, and not a clear way. Things still bad, the Doctor still at the disadvantage.

But when did it stop the Doctor? And (s)he ever needs is a chance. A chance, however small, for it to go differently.

(S)He can work with the rest, getting out of the impossible situation. The only thing the Doctor needs is a possibility -- and hope, and faith that it will work out somehow.

And well... it might have been brilliant. But now the Gallifrey has been blown up for good and it’s going to be a lot more difficult to somehow bring it back. Now the Time Lords’ bodies are properly destroyed. Didn’t really have to be.
