"... for the rest of my life."

I wrote a sad story a couple of days ago. A small idea that came to me on a long drive through the country. It's not my usual oc Lyra and Harvey but it is about a relationship between Harvey and the farmer. It is about love and grief. While I was initially quite anxious to post it, I was reminded that the sad stories that are difficult to tell and difficult to read deserve as much of a voice as those happy stories. I'd love to know what you think. But before you go into it, please take a good look at the tags and only approach if you are in the right headspace to deal with the subject matter. Here's a little snippet:

The water in the fountain glittered, a mesmerising shimmer dancing over the gently rippling surface. He always found the sound of running water so calming. The day felt slow, untethered, time slipping through his fingertips, unable to grasp the seconds as they rushed by.

There was some lingering sensation, unshakable, a feeling he couldn’t quite put his finger on. He felt anxious, thoughts disjointed, not for the first time. Harvey chuckled quietly, watching the light glint and sparkle, white scattered across his vision like confetti on the breeze. Often prone to worry, he came here to think, find a moment of peace before allowing those thoughts to consume him.

He thought of how she would smile gently, brushing her thumb over his cheekbone; a featherlight touch and her voice sweet as honey, assuring him everything would be okay.

'Sometimes the days just get away from us. Come home to me and we can get through anything together.'

And she would kiss him, her perfect lips pressed to his, her hand resting over his racing hearbeat. He always believed her. He shook his head lightly. It must just be one of those days. He couldn’t wait to get home.
