He makes a wild turn there, nearly bumping into an old lady, but he needs to lose those poorly disguised reporters standing in front of his apartment. Spotting someone that did not seem busy running somewhere, he approaches them calmly as to not startle them. “Hi, this is a weird request but can you pretend we are talking about something?”

Purposeful steps had barely halted or faltered as she read over a fresh email from a client, only slowing her pace as she was approached by a familiar face. Heavy sigh is heaved, tone dry as she speaks plainly. “I don’t have time for pretend conversations.” Smirk tugs at the edge of her lips even though voice remains playfully clipped. “Make it good or I’ll bill you for my time, Veselovsky.”

Clementine: Would you fancy a tall glass of Brown-Eyed Brunette? She comes with a straw and a little umbrella.

Despite how frequently she and Elena would butt heads, mostly due to their strong-willed nature and inability to back down from an argument or a simple disagreement, Heidi had to admit – though  she never would – that her big sister had a way of dealing with her that was generally effective. There was no sense in trying to talk Heidi down when she was having one of her ‘moments’, words of wisdom only heightening her anguish in the moment, which is why she needed someone who would offer little spoken word. Lips pursing slightly, she sat herself down on the dining chair next to Len, eyes flickering down to her shopping bags. “I wasn’t about to give the Daily Pier that satisfaction of thinking they’d scared me away. I might have maxed out a credit card or two in the process – but it’s not like I can’t afford it.” Heidi made sure to clarify before tossing a bit of hair behind her shoulder. “Would you? Do you think I could win?” her eyes widened slightly at the prospect of taking that awful magazine for every stupid penny they were worth. “Paltrow is never old news. She’s seen controversial health figure while at the same time managing to still be America’s fucking Sweetheart after all these years. She’s gotten to make out with Robert Downey Jr. for christ’s sake.” She huffed, taking another long sip from the crystal. “I’m not worried,” Heidi snapped, tossing her sister a knowing look. “I’m just…irritated. All I was trying to do was scare the living crap out of the guy who’s been stringing Julie along. It’s so unfair.”

Light humming was given in acknowledgement of her sister’s continued words, taken a moment to weigh them all up before she said her piece. It had always been a delicate balance between the two of them - too similar in some ways and too different in the rest - but there was no denying things had gotten tougher in recent years. Something had shifted in her sister and while it hardly made her a stranger, it made Elena all the more careful in her choice of words. “As you shouldn’t. Clearly they have nothing better to do with their time then start rumours and we all know you’re better than being dragged down by their lies. Now you just have the wardrobe to doubly prove it.” With a sip of her drink to add a pause, the brunette continued easily when she’d never doubted her ability to do her job right ( the case with her father aside ). “I’d have to do some more research but I don’t see why not. Just say the word - you know how much I like to win.” For once she didn’t bite back at her sister, instead making a rare concession that the younger brunette might know better than her, even if she can’t resist a little disclaimer on the end of her words.“You’re far more aware of all these things but I thought Amy Adams was America’s new Sweetheart.” Brow raised at the mention of their brother and the newest situation he had found himself in. “Was it worth it? Did you manage to put some fear into him so he’ll do right by our brother?”

“Right back at you there, El.” Kaden quipped easily, settling back into her own seat as the woman occupied her own. There was a hate and love relationship with Elena–she was damn good at her job, and she was damn good at her job. But Kaden knew that would be some bitter taste with her precinct and any lawyer in town. “I guess so, it’s the least you could do. I might even be so kind as to return the favor.”

“Careful none of your squad hear you say that.” Words trip from her tongue accompanied by a smirk when she knew fine well that she was hardly the most popular person among the officers of LA. They did all the hard work to build a case and in return she did her hard work to send it tumbling down. Kaden’s company was something of a relief that not all of those who wore blue to work hated her. “Can I get that in writing please? It’s more legally binding.” Lifting a hand languidly she got the bartender’s attention. “What’s your poison tonight?”

“Elena then,” She agreed with a nod. “Incredibly false. Completely made up. People think just because I have the whole ‘spoiled little rich girl’ background that I’ll throw money at problems like this but I worked hard for my career as a designer. Getting people to take me seriously and not still think of me as only a pretty face on a magazine cover,” Her emotions were running at a high and a few tears fell. It wasn’t usual for her to get so emotional but she’d felt attacked by the people accusing her. “I’m not about to let some jealously ridden person mess that up for me. You know?” She sighed, wiping her cheeks with the back of her hands. “Sorry it’s not worth crying over I just,” Shaking her head, after a few deep breathes she stabled herself. “I’m fine sorry.”

A quest for perfection had been inherited from her father and seeped into not only everything she did but her very core. Except this pursuit of flawless meant that more often than not she set her emotions aside to get things done, so much so that there were times she had to remind herself to turn them on even for her siblings. “Of course not - and they’re not going to.” The words were intended to be comforting even if a little blunt as she pushed a box of tissues slowly towards the brunette, small sympathetic smile on her lips. “There’s a number of ways we can proceed with this but it depends on what you want the outcome to be?” It did well for her to double check what the other was trying to gain, especially when she was more that a little merciless in times like these. “Personally I’d take a hard line, make an example of them so both they and anyone else who thinks that they can get the better of you will think twice.”

“Right, right. That’s the Stark way, isn’t it? We all get what we fucking want,” Jules felt the bitterness on the tip of his tongue, though he swallowed it back with another pull from the bottle of tequila. He glanced over at his sister, setting the bottle down, “Are you gonna go fight him for me? Heidi already did – I think she made him nervous. You would make him think twice about even being with me,” he joked quietly, trying to flatten his hair down since he knew it was all over the place. “Right. Maybe. Anyway, I guess you’re here for an apology since Heidi and I ran our names through the mud as of late? I think she’s having a mental breakdown.”

Scoff left her lips at the notion that she would ever pull the same stunt as Heidi, not matter how protective she was over Julian. “You know that’s not my style. At the moment I’ll be keeping my distance unless you want me to. I see no point in scaring him off just yet if he makes you happy and is getting his act together. If he needs a little push though I’d be happy to oblige.” Keen gaze followed her brother’s moments, watching him flatten hair that she could only imagine had had hands raked through it countless times. “If I wanted one it would have been the first thing I asked for. Besides, it’s just your names in the mud, Stark-Moreno is doing just fine.” Smirk tugged at her lips as she tried to inject a little humour before words turned dry at the mention of their sister. “So I’ve seen. She’ll bounce back, she always does. Just needs a few days or weeks to be dramatic about it first. I’m not worried about her right now.”

Sadly though it had all been predictable, ego stroking and hollow niceties in the hopes of a promotion and she found herself thoroughly bored of it all. At least until the doors burst open and a man strode in demanding to see one of the other lawyers, claiming that they ruined his life.

Amusement sparked on her features although she worked hard to keep her expression only mildly amused, pressing her lips together in a tight smile. Turning away from the spectacle, she searched for someone to share her entertainment with, eyes locking with a familiar brunette. “Looks like my night has just gotten interesting twice over.”
