If she asks for the antidote, she will be assisted with it, and everyone is free to go, alive and relatively unharmed. If she doesn't ask for help, or tries to make her children help her instead of asking another adult, she will die, and her children will either die also, or be maimed for life. She doesn't know which option will happen, but she knows for sure that they won't be safe nor okay unless she gets the antidote in her system, and she cannot do it without asking any of the people in the room.

But knowing that I'm going to get straight home once I'm out of this weather, it's suddenly nothing. Having the pants of my legs and the scarf around my face frozen so stiff they feel like they cut my skin if I move, it's nothing. Knowing that the rain has reached my underwear and I can't tell cooled sweat from warmed rainwater anymore, that's nothing. My ears being so windburnt that it's giving me the kind of a headache that makes me want to throw up, that's nothing.

It's nothing because I know I'm going to get home, peel the wet clothes off myself like the skin of a stubborn orange, take a shower that's normal temperature but feels too hot at first, painfully hot, until my skin gets used to the sensation of warmth again. And then drying off and getting to a fresh, clean, dry bed. I won't care if it's 3 pm, if my clothes have clumps of snow in them once I get home, I'm going straight to bed. And it's going to be so fucking cozy.

Im mainly thinking of Marshall’s early career, before he became the first Black Supreme Court Justice. He was a traveling attorney for the NAACP, and won 29 of the 32 civil rights cases he took against the Supreme Court, including ending “Separate But Equal” doctrine via Brown v. Board of Education in 1954 and resulted in a ruling that segregation was unconstitutional.

He was a master of using the words of the system against itself to force it to lose by its own rules, often being able to use existing sociological data to prove the ways that Black people were not just being discriminated against, but were being disproportionally harmed by segregation. He was responsible for releasing a large amount of legal shackles placed on Black people in the US as a whole, though he did focus hard on school desegregations - in part because he had been rejected from schools on account of being Black himself, including Maryland’s state law school.

This is obviously a brief summary, but this is the kind of person trans women need fighting for us specifically right now. Who knows the fucking pains of how we are treated and the horrific segregation, discrimination, and danger trans women face personally. The system aint gonna *save* us but having people do their best to toss a wrench in the gears killing us Officially and slowing things down means even one more person might survive, and even one more person surviving than would otherwise is a win.
