Warnings: illness, fighting, pain, thoughts of death
A/n: a part 2 to From Hate to Love!? It sure is!
Okay it got very long so I’ve broke it up so there is another part, which I'm still working on rn
part 1 part 3
-----
Fili helped you bind your leg. You were introduced to the group as a fighter and healer to the group, which you had done your fair share of helping take care of their wounds and such. This wound that you got however, you knew there was no way for you to heal it. You couldn’t help do anything against the poison of a poisoned black arrow.
Not long after your leg was bound all of you were greeted with another arrow. Honestly by this point you weren’t surprised that someone else had pointed one towards the group. However instead of elves or orcs it was a human. You felt more relieved than anything.
Balin worked to make a deal with the man and he promised everyone entry into Lake-town.
Everyone boarded the boat but stayed near the front away from him. You however took a spot at the back near him, as there was more room and you could stretch out. Thorin’s eyes quickly darted to you as you sat down near the man. He didn’t like it at all, he didn’t trust him.
The man, Bard, as you and Bilbo found out had started rowing to take all of you to the town.
“So, what is the point in collecting the barrels? If I may ask?” You asked him wanting to talk to take your mind off the pain.
“It allows us to load fish or crabs or whatever we catch into them and take them into the town.” Bard answered your question.
“I see, but why not make your own? I mean I understand you must have some alliance with the elves, but surely it seems unfair just to get barrels?” You questioned.
“They are high quality barrels. They’re sturdy and hold over the weight of our own.” He replied. “We don’t ask for much from the woodland realm, better to receive less now in case we need bigger help later.” He said and you nodded in understanding.
As the dwarves talked of distrust in Bard, Balin reminded them they still had to pay him. Thorin quickly handed his share, wishing they could leave the boat already. He wanted to reach the mountain in time, he wanted you away from Bard, and he wanted to make sure you were okay.
You were lucky, you didn’t have to hide in the barrels again and be covered with fish like everyone else. Not only would it had been hard to get back into the barrel, but you wouldn’t have been able to handle the fish either.
You understood this was to get all of them into the town without drawing much attention to them as well. Bard managed to get them past the deputy of the town as the two of you entered, not that your presence went over well either, however you were let in on the account of pretending to be a distant relative to Bard.
Once in the town Bard knocked over most of the barrels so Thorin and them could fully get out. He led all of you back ways around, of course some guards noticed, but Thorin and them handled them quickly. You noticed the bit of happiness in the townsfolk as they willingly covered the knocked out guards to help all of you continue on. That was until Bard’s son, Bain, came to inform him the house was being watched.
What you saw next took the pain away for even just a few moments as you watched everyone climb through the toilet and Bard’s youngest asking if they ‘would bring them luck’. What was funny to you was however embarrassing to Thorin. Not only did this not make him feel like leader and king he should be, but that you were witnessing this. His embarrassment quickly turned back to worry as he noticed you sitting down. You made no sound, but your face still showed the pain you were masking and was even paler than before.
By now most of them had blankets wrapped around them as they tried to dry off. You watched as Thorin looked out the window. You could see the shock and sorrow on his face.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” Bilbo said to him.
“He has. The last time we saw such a weapon, a city was on fire. It was the day the dragon came.” Balin explained, continuing on the story of the day Smaug arrived at Dale and the mountain.
You couldn’t begin to imagine what it must have been like. What half of them in the company had endured for years. You looked at Thorin once more. He looked as if he wished he had done more that day. You may had disliked him when you joined the company, though some of that was because he disliked you, but you had to admit he did carry himself with that of a leader. Though sometimes you thought his pride was what could ruin this journey, not that it hadn’t almost a couple of times, but you felt you couldn’t help but admire the leader he was to the company. He admitted to his mistakes, he allowed the voice of the others to be heard, and he didn’t try to handle everything on his own. For that you too, felt as though you could put your faith in him, that you would follow him under his ruling; though you were not a dwarf so it probably didn’t matter to him.
You were knocked out of your thoughts to the sound of metal hitting the table. Bard unwrapped the cloth to show some hand-made weapons. You watched as they all picked them up looking in disgust and displeasement. You had seen Thorin pick up part of branch to use as a shield to wield with his sword and now he and the rest were complaining about the quality of what they would use.
They threw everything down in disappointment, but you could see a plan forming in Thorin and Dwalin’s mind at the mention of the armory. You knew this meant that was the next stop you were all going.
Bard left soon after and everyone started talking about the plan to get the weapons out of the armory. Soon enough none of Bard’s kids could stop them.
“I’m really sorry about all of this, but we thank you for your help.” You told them as you left behind the rest of the company.
Getting into the armory was simple to them as some of them formed a pyramid of sorts that allowed the others to run up it and into the window. Once they were inside they started to collect some of the weapons in their arms and some were being passed down to you through the window. The few become several and the weight is starting to get to you.
“You alright?” Bofur asked down to you.
“I’ll manage, but I think that’s enough.” You replied to him as he tried to hand down one more to you.
Between the weight of the weapons and trying to reaching the last your wounded leg gave out causing you to fall onto the ground. You let out a scream in pain as the weapons fall on the ground around you making a loud noise. You heard the watchmen in the distance yell out as the dwarves around you try to help you up.
“Run!” Yelled Dori as some of them try to do so only to stop when faced with pikes pointed all of you.
You felt guilty and completely useless to the company as you are all brought to what you believe was the Master’s house. He was not happy to be disturbed at the late hour and especially with a now crowd around his home. Thorin worked to get them to accept the company and promised treasure if the town would help supply the thing all of you needed to continue the journey.
After everything the master welcomed all of you into his home where there was no shortage of a feast. You didn’t celebrate like the rest of them. Between the pain being worst and the words Bard had spoke of bringing ruin to the town you honestly worried.

thinking about dwarf and elf smiths working together in the first age and the dwarves finding out that elves aren’t naturally fireproof like they are
Dwarf: …. So you’re saying you can’t get any closer to that to the forgefire?
Elf: not comfortably, no
(Later)
Dwarf: *thrusting a hand out* back!
Elf: it’s really all right, I’ll just use the tongs to—
Dwarf: you are made of leaves and moonlight. BACK!
