milo is actually such a gift to jrwi, to such a point where ive been relistening to old campaigns and it feels like theres a milo-sized hole in every campaign shes not in. im serious- go and listen to a campaign thats not riptide, and feel for it. i think its easy to forget aurora, because of how much we know chip, jay, and gillion, but in shorter campaigns pre-milomumbles you can vividly imagine the niche she wouldve filled. shes such a good addition to the crew, i love her so much <3

But, as of 119, Chip is all of those things.

He's really, truly, confidently- a pirate captain. Leading his co-captains (and Aurora!!) with confidence. In the hole in the sea, saying "Captain Rose isn't calling the shots anymore." Leading his crew to find those that were lost in the Black Sea. Sticking to his own pirate oath. Fucking shit up. Helping those in need. Being the best god-damn pirate the world has ever seen.

Aurora looks at them, at the Champion of the Undersea- armor clad with his shield, at the Daughter of the Navy- fiery hair and wings, and the only Captain she sees is Chip.

And he's a hero. When he reunited with Arlin, he came to the awful, incredibly hard, painful decision that he would give him up to keep the world from falling into destruction. Chip would give up the man- his DAD -who he gave everything to save. Chip lost his own life and kept going to save Arlin, content with the possibility that he himself would die fully. But for the world that treated him so horribly, Chip still chose to save it. And (with cruel irony) he would have, if not for Gillion, the hero.

And god. In 119, Chip is such a good fucking friend. He sees his co-captains, shattered by their own decisions and actions, and he's there for them. He's never angry at them. Even in all the destruction that Jay accelerated, all Chip wants to know is that she's okay, and that Lizzie is okay. And once he knows that, he believes that everything *will* be okay. And when she goes unconscious at the pond, he carries her back to Ursus. He gives Gillion the time that he needs at the bottom of the pond to come to terms with what he did. He's there for them. He's leading them. He loves them.

Gillion as an inverted version of the ‘whatever it takes’ trope is so interesting to me because throughout the beginning of the campaign, it’s clear that despite his exile, he’s still loyal to his cause (even though it isn’t truly his cause) and it was clear that he would choose the world above all else, and from that point it seems obvious what the ending to that storyline would be, except it’s not. Gillion’s choice is an expectation/subversion for the other characters, maybe, but as a viewer, we can see that this is a storm that had been brewing for a long time. Gaining size and strength with every kind word, every soft touch and gentle look ever given to Gillion by his friends. In the end, it makes perfect sense what Gillion does, and how little time it takes him to decide. ‘That is the one person who ever made him feel like he could save something, and right now there is only one important thing to save.’

GUYS. i genuinely dont want to complain because 116 was AMAZING but I MISS THE OLD THUMBNAILS. i think its fine for oneshots, those make sense cause you wanna draw viewers in and you dont need to get caught up for 115 EPISODES.

but when it comes to riptide, the beatifully drawn thumbnails matched the tone so well, unfortunately 'OUR DND DM PUT US IN THE HOLE' does not. they didnt even say it was riptide??

like i said before, i dont want to complain much because the actual episode was perfect, but it jst made me kinda sad to see that we didnt even get a proper thumbnail/title for an episode we've been waiting for for 700 days.

also, im pretty sure that tactic dosent even work in a series? followers of the story are gonna be confused, and might miss it and fresh viewers are also gonna be confused, and might not know that its apart of a series CAUSE IT DOSENT SAY. sigh.
