Yian Kut-ku from Monster Hunter!!
aaaand rambling under cut
Started sculpting progress on this over a year ago, I think I baked it... seven times? Not sure, I didn't keeep count very well. Getting it to balance properly was crazy annoying. I had to put tiny pieces of tape under its claws to prevent it from falling onto its face during this video, since it couldn't balance on the fabric very well. It does fine on flat surfaces, though.
Yian Kut-ku in the game has a tendency of crashing face-first into the ground anyways, so, it's fitting at least!
I used the Monster Hunter Stories render of Yian Kut-ku as a reference when sculpting and painting, since not only do I just really like the way all the bright colors in MH Stories look, but the textures on the models are very easy to pick details out of and sculpt! A lot of main series monster renders are very heavily textured and thus harder to reference from.
That, and I'm very attached to the Yian Kut-Ku in MH Stories, since it’s the first vaguely dragon-y looking monster you get access to!
When the demo of the game first released, all I would do is fight the one in the starting area over and over again for extra exp since that was really all that was left in the demo, but I still wanted to play it...
