Effortless Ruminations

The words I write are my weapon of choice to escape this reality.  I’ve been fooled one too many times and my only escape sits firmly in this hand as I write. I say good-bye and close this chapter. As I lay in bed, thoughts multiply most rapidly and I can’t contain the thunder that crashes in my mind in the form of so many words to write.

You hold me together, 

But not strong enough. 

A loose bond,  

You fall easily away.

Hot to hug you for long; and I love the winter 

because I forget how much I missed these

Embraces of doubtless love.

Plays with a small metal ball. 

He sits on his grand-mother’s lap

Using the small sphere as a car. 

He imagines the toy car he left at home

Or the one he doesn’t own and dotes

About with the small metal ball. 

He outlines the edges of the seat, 

Not caring that he’s touching the 

Stranger in front of him. He plays and 

Plays and I watch as he imagines a playful

Wonder why I don’t pursue—-

And all I want to say is that

I’m standing on the sidelines, 

Watching the miseries of the 

Dullest relationships I have 

No desire to be in.

Sweet are friends, 

Who stamp 

Love and Laughter

On life—

When the tides of 

Life have passed, 

Only sweet sweet

Memories are left behind.

I want to grow old with you

Teach you new knowledge

I want to grab coffee in crowded places on a hot or cold Sunday morning

I want to look up from my book and smile at you

I want you to wonder what I’m smiling about

I want you to ask me how much I love you

I want our kids to inherit your kindness, I want them to rid my cynicism.

I want a cold and wet Christmas night with you.

I want to be still with you and breath in your scent.

I want to grow old with you.

Shut the icy windows, 

Clear a gap with 

                My sleeve to look out. 

In gray darkness, 

I see you 

In that large white sweater. 

You try to run from the 

Rain, 

Covering your head with both hands. 

I watch you and smile, 

I light the candle, 

Hear you come in,

And suddenly
