Next to Godliness, oh what a quest. Hans asking Henry to fetch him some wine. So Henry took his keys and all his clothes and Hans had to walk around with his undergarments through town hahaha.
Then, Henry won the Tourney and Hans gave him gold spurs? “I had them made for you,” like bro you basically just met henry. WHAT? And you hated him like 3 days prior and only had them made cus the tourney?? No babes. Henry rescued you from the cumans and you’ve been throbbing in your pants since then.
Yes Theresa and lady blah blah blah, their romancing option is good and all but God Henry, ask Hans out and kiss already. I can’t believe we have to wait till basically the end of KCD2 for yall to cave. KCD is a lot of things but it’s a frickin love story to me and YOUR NOT LOVING HIM FASTER

The bells had been ringing all morning. Henry hated them. With each toll, it felt like a stake driving the truth deeper and deeper into his chest; it was worst than torture. He tried to compromise with reality in his head. This had to be done. It’s what nobles did. He barely knows her. They don’t have the history he has with him. But alas, it was just delusion.
Henry stood at the front near the alter, his hands clasped behind his back so nobody would see how tightly his fists were clenched. He was desperately trying not to lose his composure. The mixed smell of melting candle wax and old stone was making him feel nauseous and how the guests, mostly nobles talking amongst themselves was driving him nuts. He wanted them to stop. All he wanted in this moment was peace.
He heard footsteps approach from behind and a hand touch the back of his neck. He turned his head to look to see a familiar but comfortable face.
“Father,” Henry spoke softly.
“Henry,” Radzig would say with a soft reassuring smile, “you don’t look well.”
Henry wouldn’t respond but look away. Of course he wasn’t well.
Radzig sighed, “It means a lot to him you showed up.”
“Why would I not?” Henry asks looking at the alter. It had a beautiful arrangement of flowers… or ‘weeds’ Hans would say.
“Sir Hanush may have not seen the connection between you two, but I have and it pains me to see you like this.”
Henry’s neck practically broke turning to look his father in his eyes. It wasn’t a look of shock but disgust.
“Will you keep your voice low?” Henry snapped at him.
“What I am trying to say is, that I have been in your shoes before and you’re not alone,” Radzig spoke more softly grabbing his son’s shoulder for a soft squeeze.
Henry would roll his eyes and shake his head fighting back the tears. He tried to make sense of what Radzig was trying to say. How could he possibly feel what he feels? Was it watching him grow up or was it watching his mother be with Martin?
“I’m here as Sir Hans’ page and bodyguard. That’s it,” Henry replied. He was lying and he knew his father knew it too.
“Look at me Henry,” he grabbed his sons shoulders and turn him to look at him, “I know what your thinking. This is the day you lose him, but you’re wrong.”
Henry would look into his fathers eyes as he continued,
“A wedding is not a funeral, the man isn’t being buried. Ay, his life will change, so will yours. That’s what happens when we get older. We take on duties we never asked for and burdens we’d gladly burn if given the chance,” a small smile tugged at the corner of his lips
“God knows Hans has spent half of his life trying to escape his responsibilities,” his smile dropped, “but listen well, the Hans Capon who dragged you into more trouble than you can handle isn’t disappearing at the exchange of his vows. He is still Hans,” he would say placing his hands around Henry’s jaw, his thumbs on his cheeks.
“There will still be hunts, journeys, drinking too much wine and battles if God is feeling particularly cruel,” his hands would tighten ever so slightly, “life rarely ends in a single day, Henry. It just changes course. But you’re grieving a future you thought you’d have and perhaps your right to mourn it. But don’t waste your time grieving what might have been, when you fail to see what could be,”
Radzig would finish his moment of consolation and pull his son’s head into his shoulder patting his back.
“I’m trying, Father,” Henry would say softly, “I’m trying so hard.”
“I know Son,” Radzig spoke softly pulling away.
As they pulled apart, a hush settled over the church. The murmured conversations faded into silence, and Henry felt his heart sink like a stone in his chest. Then came the singing. The guests’ voices rose together in a solemn choir, filling the chapel with a hymn that echoed from the stone walls. The sound was beautiful, but it made it hurt all the more.
Swallowing hard, Henry lifted his gaze down the aisle. Hans had arrived, arm in arm with his bride, he stepped through the church doors and into the sea of watching faces. Candlelight caught the gold embroidery of his doublet as he walked, every bit the noble lord he was meant to be. Henry couldn’t look away.
With every step Hans took down the aisle, the knot in Henry’s chest tightened. He’d told himself he could endure this. That he could stand through the ceremony, keep his composure and be happy for him. But as Hans drew nearer, something inside him began to give way. His vision blurred and Henry blinked hard, trying to force the tears back, but they kept gathering faster than he could stop them. They never fell. They simply clung to his lashes, leaving his eyes bright and glassy in the candlelight.
He lowered his head for a moment, jaw clenched so tightly it hurt, then he looked up. Hans was only a few paces away; then their eyes met. For a heartbeat, the church disappeared. The singing, the guests, the priest waiting at the altar… none of it seemed to ever exist. There was only Hans. The Henry seen it happen right in front of his eyes; Hans’s expression faltered just slightly, just enough.
His gaze lingered on Henry’s face, on the tears he was trying and failing to hide. Instinctively, Hans’s hand lifted from his side and his fingers twitched forward, reaching as though he meant to wipe the tears from his eyes to offer some small reassurance or maybe to remind him that he was still there.
But reality caught up with him.
His bride remained at his side and the entire church was watching, then Hans’s hand froze midway. For the briefest moment, pain flashed across his face then he lowered it again. Without a word, he tore his gaze away and continued down the aisle.
Henry watched him go and somehow, that half-finished gesture hurt far more than if Hans had never reached for him at all…
I fear that we have a Romeo & Juliet situation among us as much as I want to deny it.
Henry couldn’t quite possibly live every day, at the beginning of the Hussite Wars, alone, with all the memories of Hans flooding his mind and clouding his dreams. It would be unbearable.
And as much as Samuel could quite possibly be around, it still wouldn’t match the type of energy Hans had. No one can light up a room, or touch his heart with the tenderness that Hans could. Nonetheless, their souls, hearts and minds are intertwined.
“If not this lifetime, maybe the next…”
(This photo resonates so much with me, the passion, the tenderness, the conviction and the love they have for each other is just… unmatchable and I pray this fandom never dies. Nothing has kept me more awake and more in tears than Henry & Hans)
Because I like to bring pain and suffering to our KCD chat, I kicked the figurative door open one day and proposed that, what if, Henry wore armor for the suicide mission, so Hans would be the one helping him into it - and how it would make it crucially clear that it would be the only thing keeping Henry alive if it came to it. And how Hans couldn't do anything else than pray that it would all be enough. And the idea just stayed with me, with the allmighty lord Capon, who never did anything like this to someone else, and how it would make their roles very much reversed. On top of all that angst, of course.
So. That led me to draw this, hopefully you enjoy it!

Did you kiss your knight under a cherry tree today?
It's the first of May. First of May in Czechia means the blorbos get to kiss under a blooming cherry tree. The tradition's afaik from 20th century, but I don't really care. Blorbos are smooching under the tree!
I call this one: Hans's Hands in Henry's Hands: forcing myself to practice drawing hands
Part 1 of 2 (allegedly)
I don't normally do this but I'm gonna post what I got for the remaining pages under the cut, just in case I miss the opportunity to finish it in time or if I lose interest in it (admittedly I kinda got less faith in this one & I feel like I got what I wanted from it on the experimental level, sooooo maybe!!)
you can see my lucrative hand technique from the experiment (10/10 would recommend btw!!)
ya so henry's being a bit of a drunk weirdo & hans is being a bit of a huge ass to him about it which... idk. this started out as a fleshed out ficlet which is why i'm also concerned about the pacing toward the end (and some of the more uhh nuanced descriptions not rly translating well visually) so i'm weighing if it'd be worth the effort to crank out another non-insubstantial 6 pages or to call the experiment a success & move on
also it was ~90 degrees today so maybe i'm just being a baby @ the idea of sitting in my room w/ sweaty hands again lmao
anyway let's all smack hans for making this smug face @ henry:
I’m replaying KCD1, and I’m very early in the game of course being that I’m only at the hunt where Hans and Henry are finally alone after trash talking. When do you think Hans started to fall in love?
• When Henry opened up about the Skalitz Raid?
• When he hunted and won (or lost?)
• When he saved him from the Cumans after they captured him?
• or, when they first met earlier at dinner when Hans first laid eyes on him? 👀
He got really soft with him on the ride there. That’s all. Went from having to be this tough nobleman to wanting to know the blacksmiths boy
If Radzig Kobyla did in fact have relations with a commoner ie a peasant and that peasant did infact produce a child, Radzig would inherently keep it quiet and disregard the child. It was a bastard child. Illegitimate. Meaning that it could reduce his popularity, his legitimacy, and his political power. However just because the child is a bastard doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t move the world around him to maybe… better his life. Does that make sense?
And peasants did not keep records of these things. Peasants did not normally keep records of birth records, there were no birth certificates, they didn’t keep death records, there were no death certificates, there was no central office of book keeping or medical records. If family’s did take records of these things it would be lost with time (hundreds of years of mold, smoke, fires, handling) it just wasn’t a priority. And if Henry’s adopted parents home was indeed burned down in the Skalitz Raid of 1403, then those records were burnt to ash.
So of course historians will say: There was no Henry of Skalitz
But historians should say: We cannot rule out the possibility that there was a Henry of Skalitz.
So dream on, because for one, regardless of Hans and Henry’s beautiful connection, cannot believe there existed a Hans Capon without a Henry of Skalitz 💛

In 1419, we expect the young Hans Capon to die in battle… BUT IN MY UNIVERSE *ahem* he doesn’t… because Henry is there.
Hear me out. They say he died. They say he’s buried in the family crypt. But there’s no evidence. No one actually knows. The records just stop involving his name. Everything is presumed.
So in my universe of delusion, Hans is most definitely severely injured in battle. However, Henry sees this right? He runs over to him when the battle is calm. Henry hanging his head with sorrow and grief. Everyone is walking by whom survived sees this and goes “oh yes, Hans Capon died in battle,” and they simply move on. But as Henry is grieving he notices a sign of life. This is when he acts. This is when Henry is pissed at the world, the nobles, the politics, the war.
Henry scoops up Hans and finds a wagon and takes him to the nearest good wife and nurses him back to Health. By the time Hans recovers, his son has already taken his place and at this point, Hans is no longer a noble. He is a dead man walking. So that’s when they decide together. “Let’s not go back.”
I don’t know. I just refuse to believe Hans and Henry’s story ceases to exist. THERE HAS TO BE MORE
It would be a choice, too. Do you call for help as they scream to find you on the now quiet battlefield ? Or do you ignore their pleas and embark Capon away to heal him yourself and maybe start over somewhere once he gets better ?
And when Henry would see Hans suffer the "final blow" during the fight, there would be THE theme. The one we hear when Henry looks at his parents dying and the Jewish quarter get raided. With a close shot of his face, once again. His big, blue, boyish eyes watching the scene like he’s back in Skalitz, watching his family be murdered, helpless, useless, despite being so close and holding a sword in his hand.
And that would make Henry go "fuck it, nothing matters", to see Hans die. So when he’s actually still alive, barely, the player would be more inclined to scoop him up onto Pebbles and escape. No more grand battles anymore. Just the two of them, hidden, safe, free.
AND must I say that as Henry approaches unconscious and severely wounded Hans, the first thing he does is shake him, desperately trying to wake him up, as the only thought in his head is 'No, not again, I can’t lose someone I love again'
And he’d search for any signs of life in Hans with such desperate urgency, almost descending into madness.
Well I don’t know if Henry would actively see Hans get injured. I think it would be too obvious for anybody to see Hans get whisked away by his man. (Cus let’s be honest, ‘um-teen’ years with his hunky blacksmith, everyone is going to know Henry took him. So, I feel Henry would have to stumble across him once everyone else has either moved on or is actively doing so.
Of course, Henry would be searching for his lordship, and as soon as he sees him lying in the mud or maybe among a pile of other folk, that’s when Henry will go through the PTSD of losing everyone he cared about. It would be like a bomb went set off next to his ears. Tinnitus ringing in the ear, muffled sounds, tunnel vision. He runs over to him. Lifts him up. And in Henry’s mind he’s panic crying trying to get Hans to wake.
Memory’s begin to flash through his mind of all the good times and then the bad memories all the way up to their last argument, and this last argument happened right before this battle and it was same old Henry trying to persuade Hans not to fight and Hans says some AWFUL SHIT because well… that’s Hans. And Henry replied with, “Well, I wish I never met your selfish and greedy ass either!!” Even though we all know, that’s false but it hurt Hans and Henry nonetheless.
Black Bartosch would serve CVNT at Hans’ wedding. He would sit next to Henry and make sure Hans would see them both. Together. And Hans would be stumbling over his vows not able to concentrate!!!
The cottage was small. It was just one main room. It had a low ceiling crossed by dark wooden beams stained by decades of smoke. The walls were rough timber with wattle and daub, uneven in some places. Herbs hung drying from the rafters, a mix of sage, rosemary, yarrow and lavender filled the air with a faint earthy scent beneath the stronger smell of wet wool and woodsmoke.
Outside, rain fell steadily. Not a violent storm. Just relentless spring rain. The thatched roof muffled most of it, turning the downpour into a constant soft drumming overhead. Occasionally a heavier stream would pour from the eaves and splash into a puddle outside the window. Every now and then a gust of wind would rattle the shutters, reminding everyone that beyond the cottage walls the world was cold, wet, and dark.
Inside, the fire was the heart of the room. Logs settled and cracked. A knot in the wood would bursts with a sharp pop. Orange light flickered across the walls, causing shadows to stretch and shift. Every movement of Henry, Samuel, or Godwin would send their shadows crawling across the ceiling.
Hans, lied in bed with his eyes closed, weak and unable to speak but could hear everything. The scrape of Henry’s boots pacing the floor, the creak of Godwin leaning back in his chair, even the rustle of Samuel adjusting his cloak.
“You two have no idea what I went through,” Henry would say with pure disgust,
“We’re not suggesting we did, lad.” Godwin spoke, attempting to de-escalate the tension,
“But you are. You are suggesting he returns to what? Take back his title?” Henry asks raising his voice, “and for what? To die again?”
“But he didn’t die,” Samuel speaks up
“Because of me!” Henry shouts turning sharply toward Samuel, “but he may not be as lucky next time!”
“Lower your voice, Henry,” Godwin says,
“He’s unconscious,” Henry brushes off Godwins request.
“He could still hear us,” Godwin replies once more in protest.
Silence befell the room. A log would shift sending sparks into the air. The sound of the rain could be heard louder than before.
Henry would sit in a chair and take a deep sigh.
“Kurva!” Henry spat clearly disappointed with who he sent for. Godwin and Samuel just couldn’t wrap their heads around Hans leaving the realm and abandoning his duty, one in which Hans had taken seriously for so long.
“You weren’t there. I would have missed him myself. He was lying amongst other bodies. Lifeless. Anyone who found him presumed he was dead and he nearly was. I held him in my arms for what felt like eternity, but I saw his fingers twitch.”
There was a long pause, silence between all of them but then Henry broke the silence,
“So I picked him up… and I didn’t think he would live to see the road. When I found this good wife, I didn’t think he would live to see the evening. When he was lying there after the she did everything she could, I didn’t think he would live to see the morning. It’s been 2 weeks… and he’s still alive.”
“Barely,” Samuel scoffed,
“But he is…” Godwin snapped at him.
Another moment of silence befell the room before Henry spoke again,
“I’ve never gave up on him before, why would I give up now?”
