I live in the western part of the US so I was digging through New York culture

This is a bit of hear me out from my research for this head canon

We know they do supply runs, whether they just steal food or leave money behind. They live in Manhattan so very urban resources. However, they go all over New York City which would include things like Long Island, Queens, Staten Island, Jamaica Bay, and coastal Brooklyn. They are reptiles whether red earred sliders, generic turtles, or different species.

I think all four of them would 100% know how to get clams, blue crabs, and mussels. Heck even just basic fishing.

Then you can dig deeper into it where they could forage wild mushrooms, edible greens, berries, cat tails, wild onions, etc all while still in New York City.

I don’t think they do it a lot because it takes time and they still have to be careful to not get caught. But honestly it feels like something that would fit in.

Then you could add ideas of Leonardo having knowledge of New York medicinal plants, and taking forging days.

It is very common where I live that lower income and homeless fish out of our canals and then people of all economic backgrounds fish out of stocked city ponds, so I feel like these kind of aspects weave in well with their life style and needs.

It couldn’t be year round because some times of the year are too cold, but during warmer months supplementing their supplies this way works for me.

Habits:All the brothers picked up habits from Master Splinter without knowing that he originally built them during his life as a Yakuza underboss. For Leonardo he thinks he speaks standard Japanese but sounds like an uncouth gangster from being taught from Splinter. He will automatically stand when someone important enters the room. And he will always check the room he is in one last time before leaving.

Underworld Reputation: “The Ghost” You don’t see him coming, you don’t hear him coming. By the time you are in combat it is already too late. His presence becomes overwhelming and you feel like you can not escape his blade. He commands the three others that fight with him with precision and determination.

Personality

Positives: Leonardo is effortlessly charismatic, socially fluid, grounded, self assured, and has grown to be the type of leader his brothers trust without thinking. His presence puts people at ease, draws attention without effort, and makes people listen without pressure. Because of this people listen when he speaks, his presence carries authority even when relaxed, he can command a room with very little effort. His humor is sarcastic, sardonic, dry, cutting, precise, and often timed perfectly. He is not above the chaos, he just chooses when to participates in it. He can be competitive, teasing, smug, and quietly mischievous on rare occasions. When he lets himself he will join in chases, instigating small challenges, and committing to bits once he’s in them. When the brothers can pull him into roughhousing he usually ends up on top 90% of the time with precision, control, anticipation, and efficiency. He is always one step ahead. He is comfortable in silence feeling no need to fill it.

Negatives: Leonardo has a deep ego and can be arrogant. He believes he should be the best, should be relied on, and should be able to handle everything. His ego can cause overcommitment, refusal to step back, harsher judgment of other, and delayed emotional vulnerability.

Current Stage of Grief from Master Splinter’s Passing: Leonardo is currently stuck in the depression stage of grief. It causes him to second guess decisions that he normally would feel firm in and his normal drive to protect his family has settled in firmer, causing Leo to do less and less missions topside unless necessary. The underworld has noticed the turtles decreased presence and rumors have started.

Combat

Main Weapons: Duel katanas

Hamato Style: Like all of his brothers, Leonardo fights in the Hamato Style of Ninjitsu. It is characterized by being controlled, disciplined, reactive, honor-based restraint, adaptive teamwork, defense focused, and specialized in going against multiple opponants.

Personal Fighting Style: Leonardo’s own fighting style is characterized as being disciplined, tactical, adaptive, pressure oriented, highly efficient. While it feels like you are fighting against the force of fire it is not wild or untamed. It is like the fire used to forge a sword. Leo fights like every movement has purpose and every opening is intentional. It is known in the family that Michelangelo may have more natural potential however Leonardo is the most refined and dangerous.

Strengths: battlefield coordination, timing, precision, reading combat flow, and maintaining control under pressure

Weaknesses: struggles against extreme unpredictability, over-controls situations, and can become too rigid when emotionally stressed

Combat Behavior and Role in Team: In combat Leonardo relays information constantly that Donatello gives him to coordinate his brothers, he redirects allies into stronger positions, adapts mid-fight quickly, prefers ending fights cleanly and efficiently, steps between danger and others instinctively, and coordinates and controls flow of the battle.
