"Life begins at the end of your comfort zone."
A Google search of this quote credits Neale Donald Walsch. I haven't ready any of his work, in fact, I had never even heard of him until I did the Google search just now.
I agree with his statement wholeheartedly because of much of what I've seen in patients.
Getting out of our respective comfort zones means dealing with 2 umbrella emotions that I will call Fear and Courage.
It makes no difference whether you believe fear is a good thing or bad thing. It makes no difference what I believe. What I have found in patients though is that fear causes problems in the body, most commonly as frozen shoulder, and therefore, I classify fear as negative.
Living in our comfort zone makes us have to admit we have a comfort zone. Having a comfort zone means we have fear. Just because we are comfortable right now doesn't mean we don't have fear. It's there, and we're avoiding it. Since fear is a negative emotion, it means Life can't be started until we start pushing the boundaries of our comfort zone. So yeah, I agree with this quote completely.
The medical profession really has no idea what brings on frozen shoulder and has no idea what to do about it. The typical prescription is rest, painkillers, anti-inflammatories, and "It'll go away eventually." This makes perfect sense because fear doesn't show up in their blood tests, urine tests, and xrays and MRIs.
The chiropractic profession isn't really doing a whole lot better, if at all. Popping that shoulder causes some temporary relief, just like a painkiller pill. And when it eventually fades, because the patient's fear fades away, we like to take credit for 100 shoulder adjustments having been the cure.
Finding the patient's positive emotional strength works much quicker in freeing up that shoulder. Obviously, these are different in each patient, but what comes immediately to mind is that Courage is the minimal place to start. There are much stronger positive emotions but not everyone possesses them.
Have the courage to make only positive statements. The way we would like our life to be IS feasible.
