     Lowery looked at the other, his eyes     immediately   widening   in   surprise.

It wasn’t long until Li came bounding up to the door, taking a deep breath before swinging it open and smiling. He stood before Cruthers wearing a baggy tshirt and khaki shorts with just his socks on.

“Hey Lowery. Uh, come on in.”

He moved his arm allowing the other to enter his home. The strong sweet smell of cooking spices wafted throughout the homestead creating a warm and homely yet foreign feel, at least to any American.

He lead Lowery down the hall to the stairs that lead up to his bedroom when his mother walked out of the study. She wore big round glasses and had her hair tied up in a neat bun. She was rather young looking and had a pretty face. Oddly enough though she was dressed in bright coloured clothes, compared to usual black and blue that Li wore at school.

“Ah huānyíng!” She spoke softly in Mandarin. “It is very nice to meet you dear. Welcome to our home, spiritual cleansing happens here so you should walk out feeling fresh and relaxed.” She turned to Li and spoke to him in her native tongue to which Li replied similarly. She smiled at them both and trotted off.

“Sorry about that, she’s a bit weird”. He laughed nervously and climbed the stairs pulling Lowery into his room. He stood awkwardly and waited for his crush to react.

His room was plastered in nerdy dinosaur posters and gaming pin ups. So many that you could barely see the wall. On his desk was a box filled with small pieces of fossil and he had a vast amount of pokemon and dinosaur teddies on his bed.

“Ok you can laugh at me now” he said, smiling.

     He didn’t have much time to react to all      that happened once he entered the hou-      se. Though he followed Li through his  h-      ome and gave the strange woman a pol-      ite smile even though he couldn’t  follow      what  she was saying. And the  ‘spiritual      cleansing’ thing really threw him, but  to      each their own. And the smell and vibe t-      he home gave off didn’t bother him at all      anyway. As she walked off he offered a s-      mall  quick single wave, not speaking  up      as nerves got to the best of his vocal cor-      ds.

     And when he entered Li’s room he could-      n’t stop his smile from growing, a relaxed      feeling washing over him. Phew. They sha-      red some interests and he wasn’t going to      be the only nerd in the area. So Lowery w-      asn’t at all disturbed or amused by the arr-      ay             of     collections    he          had.

“Really? That’s wicked cool! I didn’t know you were such a gamer either.” He said as he flopped down on his bed, sitting cross legged on the covers.

“Most of my stuff I brought from Scotland, the rest was picked up in Taiwan. I usually always get at least one thing when I go there to visit family. The game stores there are wicked cool but one of the best parts is Japan being a couple hours flight away. Tokyo’s game stores? Steller.”

     Lowery looked at the other, his eyes     immediately   widening   in   surprise.

This was a bold move for him. Asking someone over to his house after only really chatting to each other in class or group projects. What had he gotten himself into. With an anxious smile, he nodded his head.

“Yeah of course, sure!” He really was making an arse of himself.

“I’d need time to tell my parents anyway… may I?” He fumbled for a pen in his backpack and gently took Lowery’s arm, and as soft as he could, scribbled his address onto his skin.

“S-Sorry it’s the best I have, Just head here when you’re ready, It’s across the intersection but don’t go too far or you’ll end up in the wrong- You probably know this area better than me” He laughed awkwardly.

“See you then Lowery!” He spun on his heel and took off, holding his head in his hands.

     Giving  him a confused look for a  moment,      he  nodded,  letting his arm be taken by  Li      as  he wrote along it. A small smile  gracing      his features once more as he glanced  from      the address back to him. “It’s totally fine, m-      an, and I’m sure I’ll be able to find your plac-      e.” About to offer something else—he wasn-      ‘t sure what he would—before the kid ran off.

     Which he was quietly thankful for as he didn’t      know how he himself would have escaped this.

     But all the way home he was smiling even thou-      gh anxious nerves boiled over him with each st-      ep. His mind turning and thinking of everything      that could go wrong. Though once he got home      he quickly distracted himself with watering the f-      lowers inside of his room then the ones outside.      He gave a quick hello and good bye to his sister      before he headed back out to find Li’s home. His      parents weren’t home till later that night, so he tr-      usted his sister enough for her to tell them where      he                                                                    was.

“Hey Lowery. Uh, come on in.”

Glancing up awkwardly from his shoes at last, Li met eyes with the boy he had been crushing on for what? 3 months now? He had always found it so hard to approach Lowery, even just to say hi; and this was all due to his nerves. The kid was like him, an underdog.

A warm smile crept onto the boy’s face, wiping his sweaty palms on his jeans.

“For real? Like. Thank you, I’m really happy.” Was this the best way he could display his gratitude?

“Wanna uh- hang out after school today? I mean, if you’re not busy or anything. You could come over to mine? I have Nintendo-”

He paused and bit his lip. Now he sounded like an utter dork.

     It wasn’t until Li had looked  up      at him that he had to look away,      his cheeks reddening already. T-      he  smile  still  in  place   though.

“Yeah of course, sure!” He really was making an arse of himself.

 The blonde smiled back almost as genuinely as she took the man’s offered hand and shook it. “Lex Murphy, journalist,” she said as she let go of his hand. “Dammit! For a moment here, I thought I’d finally get the secret to eternal life!”

Li laughed at her joke. It was always nice to get a chuckle on the job, things could get a bit dry here. If he was honest, he’d much rather go look at some Dinosaurs.

“Lex Murphy eh? Heard that name somewhere before. Who do you write for?”

He paused and brought his gaze back to Lex.

Li anxiously shoved his hands in his jean pockets and scuffed his shoes on the ground, not daring to make eye contact with Lowery. He coughed as he started speaking, stammering out his words.

“S-So that’s a yes? As in a yes yes? I mean. I- I uh. I totally dig you Lowery but if it’s a bit too weird we don’t gotta- I mean. Uh.”

He scratched the back of his head, squinting his eyes in disgust at his own babbling.

“Kids at school can be shit but I mean.. Fuck them? Right?”

     A part of him was glad that the other      seemed as nervous as he was, and a-      nother part of him was amused by it.      Lowery had never felt like he could h-      ave that effect on people nor did he f-      eel like anyone would actually ask him      to                                               PROM.

    “Uh…yeah. Sure. I’d love to go with you,”      a small embarrassed smile growing acro-      ss                           his                       face.
