Occasionally referred to as the Green Woman is a being primarily seen as a symbol for rebirth, representing the cycle of new growth that happens every spring.
The Green man is found in various cultures around the world and is often represented as the Horned God from Wiccan religion, Cernunnos from Celtic cultures or Pan from Greek mythology.
The Horned God is one of two primary deities found in the wiccan religion, however The Horned God predates Wicca, and is an early 20th-century syncretic term for a horned or antlered anthropomorphic god partially based on historical horned deities.
The Horned God represents the male part of Wiccas duotheistic theological system, the consort of the female Triple Goddess of the moon or other mother goddesses. In common Wiccan belief, he is associated with nature, wilderness, sexuality, hunting and life cycles.
Many depictions vary with either him being a horned or antlered being, sometimes depicting him as a man with a beasts head.
Cernunnos is often depicted with antlers, sitting with his legs crossed and is associated with stags, horned serpents, dogs, bulls and rats.
Due to lack of surviving literate little is known about his name, his followers or his significance to the Celtic religion. Interpretations of his role vary from seeing him as a god of animals, nature and fertility to a god of travel commerce and bi directionality.
Pan in anceint Greek mythology is known as the god of the wild, Shepards and flocks, nature of the mountain wilds, rustic music and impromptus and a companion to the nymphs.
He has the hindquarters, legs and horns of a goat in the same manner of fauns or satyrs. His homeland is said to be rustic Arcadia, he is also recognized as the god of fields, groves, wooden glens and is often associated with sex; because of this, Pan is connected to fertility and the season of spring.
A few things that each of these cultures seem to agree on is the the Green Man represents fertility and is often depicted with horns or antlers. Many images show the Green Man being surrounded by greenery and animals, and some even show him as being a man with the head of a beast similar to a goat, some depict his bottom half as being that of a goat.
