[ LIN MANUEL-MIRANDA, FORTY-ONE, DEMIBOY ]. who is that on campus? oh, it’s just the new professor [ EDUARDO LOPEZ-BIRK ]. [ He/They ] are originally from [ SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO ] and they’re teaching the [ REALITY WARPING ] classes around here. apparently they’re also a [ FAE ]. they remind me of [ MATCHING DAD MUGS, WELL KEPT GARDEN, THE SOUND OF CHILDREN’S LAUGHTER, BUBBLE BATHS ]

“Considering what happened the other week, I guess I can let you off for the whole not doing my homework thing.” Eduardo sighed and rubbed their arm which had been put into a sling, ridiculous, they were a fae surely their healing would kick in soon, right? That bite had been pretty deep.

“Eduardo, come sit down!” Henri waved over his friend to the picnic table, where he was just about to indulge in a plate of french fries, loaded with various toppings. “Please, eat some,” he said, pointing at the plate with some disgust. “I don’t know why I ordered it - well, I do know, I fell for the sweet old woman at the booth, she conned me into ordering them out of pure guilt.” Henri laughed and waved over to the woman, who was watching him with a wide smile. 

“How are you enjoying the fair?” he asked, picking up one of the fries tentatively. “I keep forgetting you work at Acadia now, or at least, trying to forget.” He paused - he’d been annoyed with the school for decades, their adamancy against allowing fae students a thorn in his side. Now that his friend worked there as a Professor, curiosity was getting the better of him. “How has Acadia been treating you?” Henri asked.

Hearing the voice, Eduardo looked up and grinned when he saw who it was before wandering over. “Evening, Henri.” They sat, bringing the fries closer to eat. “These are actually pretty great.” They looked up and waved at the little old woman too with a smile. 

“The fair is a lot of fun. I had my doubts at first but now it really is fun.” Ed chewed on the fries then laughed. “I am working there now. All the kids have flown the nest, I did the travel the world thing before coming back here. I couldn’t just sit around like Chuk’s fancy man, looking pretty all day.”

Looking at the open range of bottles and the rings gathered for them to toss. He could see how most people would miss, considering it was how they threw and with how much force. Milo looked towards them, ignoring the comment before focusing back on the task at hand. “Exactly, just a ring toss, not a party.” he shook his head, picking up the ring. Milo got a chill feeling, call it something in the air, but he didn’t like it. The people around them were cheering, having a good time. Aiming the ring , he was ready to toss it, when he suddenly heard an announcement, and people screaming.

“What the hell?” he turned his head.

Eduardo was almost about to will Milo on when the screams started, they turned around in time to see people running. “What the hell?” They stepped back when someone fell down in front of them so they helped him up and tried to ask what the issue was but only got a stumble of words before shaking themselves free of Ed’s grip.

Ed turned to Milo. “You a dragon, right? Why don’t you go fly up and see what the issue is?” They suggested.

Taner groaned. “This is stupid. I don’t wanna sit here and talk about what you can do to help me.” He huffed, like a small toddler. He crossed his arms and groaned. “Hey, what about extra credit. Something that isn’t a fucking prep talk, Ed?” He asked, raising his brows. “What do you think?” He asked. “Can we make a deal?”

Luckily, Eduardo was used to childish antics like these so when Taner acted like a two year old, he decided to treat him like one. “Okay, so you’re going straight to your room after this with no dinner.” Ed shrugged. “As for extra credit, fine. You’re going to the fair. If I don’t see you there, then you’re going to be staying late in my classes for the rest of the year.”

“I’ve never been to something like this before!” The fae was staring wide eyed at the various rides, unsure of what she wanted to try first. And it appeared she wasn’t the only one, several students were bouncing back and forth between the rides and games.

“Everyone says the games are rigged, but I bet if we put our heads together we could win something fun, don’t you?”

“Of course they’re rigged. This is how people who do fairs make money.” Ed made a point of rubbing their fingers together. “We our wit and intelligence, this should be a doddle.” Weren’t they supposed to be a good influence? Being an older fae? ... Nah. “How do you think we should approach this?”

Everyone had mostly gravitated to the games, which was understandable as he walked through the carnival. He could see Josephine was with her friends, and he kept himself watching her from a good distance. He was on guard here, there were too many people. Yes, there were kids, people having fun. It just wasn’t in Milo to lower his guard. Plus the students here would likely cause some trouble.

Heading towards the ring toss station, he could see some throwing the ring and it completely missing the bottle. Milo liked to be competitive, though he liked more of a challenge when he would play. Stepping up, he noted someone else already in front of him. The employee at the booth directed him to stand next to the other, keeping his focus on the bottle, he was about to throw his ring and he missed due to the other’s action. “Is it that exciting?”

“Wow, the sarcasm from you.” Eduardo turned to look at the dragon stood next to them. “Of course it’s exciting. It’s a ring toss.” They threw another but missed again, tutting softly, they only had one more left so gestured for Milo to go next. “Surprise me, let’s see what you can do.” They stood back, watching carefully before looking out at the crowd, it was calm at the moment, everyone seemed to be having a good time.

Nothing could go wrong from here, right?

Taner groaned and shot the rest of the room a look that said ‘shut up or I’ll hurt you’. He threw himself into the chair and waited for everyone to leave. When the class was empty, he whistled. “What the hell could be so important, huh?” He asked him. “I did that stupid assignment you asked me to do two weeks ago. That not enough for you?” He groaned. “So what, it was a week late… I can’t control time, teach.”

“That’s not why I’ve asked you to hang back.” Eduardo told him. “I’ve noticed that you don’t really seem to have much of an interest in learning, you are the one I need to keep telling to pay attention while everyone else listens.” They put their hands on their hips. “What’s the issue? You’re not leaving this room until you tell me. Help me, help you.” Maybe quoting a movie wasn’t their finest moment but if it helped, it helped.

“That’s alright… that’s fine… that’s just how life is.” Astrid was pacing while reassuring herself constantly. This would happen every once in a while, whenever she got bad news. And this time it was exceptionally worse. The voice startled her but she was quick to reply. “Ah yes, it happens. It is inevitable for every living thing. Starts with nothing and ends with nothing. We should be grateful for what is in between.” She said without showing any signs of sorrow. Only now realizing the destruction she caused, she was indifferent to it. After all it was some grass for her sanity.

Eduardo raised their eyebrows at what the young fae said. “That’s awfully bleak for someone your age.” They commented. “Are you doing this on purpose?” They looked at the ground below them again. “Not that it’s a bad thing, I’m just curious. It’s been a long time since I witnessed another fae doing this.”

Being a Master Magician, a preacher and an eccentric Chuk’s third eye was wide open. It was VERY difficult to surprise him. But somehow, despite all odds, his husband always did. And Chuk loved Ed for that.

Ed was right, Chuck did go right home after work. But he went into the study, determined to finish a sermon that he ended up bringing with him as he walked to the bed room. His eyes were fixed on the screen of his IPad, face light up by a light blue hue when the energy in the room felt… fuller.

“…Eddy..?” And down went the IPad. Chuk was still in his tie and church slacks but he didn’t care. It was almost like he teleported, he was scooping up the other man so fast, “Darling, I thought you weren’t meant to be home for another week!” A bright laugh fell from his lips nuzzling his nose against Ed’s, “You little trouble maker. You’ve come just in time. The kids were at their wits end with my hovering, I was starting to lose my mind being in this big house alone.”

When Chuk looked over, they grinned and laughed when they got scooped up so just wrapped their limbs around his husband, showering the side of his face with plenty of kisses. “I wanted to surprise you so got an earlier flight then just teleported here maybe an hour ago?” They shrugged but the smile remained.

“I know, I’ve had the kids call to tell me that you’ve been driving them crazy. Babe, they have their own lives and families now. I miss them too but hovering over them won’t make it feel any better. Now kiss me, I’ve missed you so much.”

Untangling, they placed a long, passionate kiss on his lips, using the tie to tug him closer. They just wanted to spend a few minutes in his embrace before slowly pulling away with a smile. 

“I’ve accept a job here in Lennox, up at the Academy. Looks like you’re stuck with me.”

Chuk didn’t have the slightest clue that Ed was on their way home, they were a week early to surprise their husband. They arrived while Chuk was still at work. First, they unpacked then figured out what was the best thing to do to surprise him. Knowing their husband, he would come straight into the bedroom first so that’s where they headed, jumping onto the bed and waited. 

Okay, a quick nap first. They settled down on Chuk’s side, how they had missed his scent. They only stirred when the front door open about forty-five minutes later so just lounged on the bed till, as predicted, the bedroom door opened. “Hey stranger.”
