TOMORROW!
Club night in London - all proceeds to pro-choice education project Education For Choice.
Today is Menstrual Hygiene Day so we asked Chella Quint, who runs the #PeriodPositive project, to write us a guest blog-post on how to teach young people about menstruation. Here are a few of her tips!
http://educationforchoice.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/teaching-about-periods-guest-post-from.html
Update - Chella says: "I responded to comments about the word 'femcare' not including those who identify as trans, genderqueer or non-binary. Thank you very much - I believe strongly in peer-review and appreciate that a few people pointed out that this phrase is also a euphemism and is off message to the rest of the resource! In training sessions I use the phrases 'menstrual products' Â or 'disposables and reusables' and in this resource I have replaced 'femcare' with 'products'."
Scotland's abortion rate continues to fall
The latest abortion statistics for Scotland were released today, and show a general reduction in the abortion rate, especially amongst younger women:

Today we have launched our #WeTrustWomen campaign - there are posters currently up in London Underground Tube carriages, and we want to share the message on social media too.
At the heart of the campaign is our strong belief that it is women that need to be the ones making their own reproductive...
New campaign from bpas1968 - look out for the posters on the tube!
Written in 2013 - thoughts on making information about reproductive health more inclusive.
A fantastic resource from the #NoTeenShame campaign. More information here.
5 ways to be an ally to young parents #noteenshame
1. Conduct an internal reflection of your views on teen pregnancy and young parenthood and challenge any negative perceptions.
2. Be an active voice against harmful campaigns, strategies, and media.
3. Ensure your messaging excludes stereotypes, shame, and narrowly framed data sources.
4. Invite young parents to the table and give them meaningful and genuine roles to help shape your work.
5. Respect young mothers and young fathers, and believe in their ability to make the best informed choices for themselves and their families.
Brilliant rules that the Sex:Positive campaign is more than happy to support.

"Northern Ireland is not covered by the current 1967 Abortion Act which applies in England, Scotland and Wales. The key legislation governing abortion in Northern Ireland comes from the Offences against the Person Act 1861. This means that access to reproductive health care is managed according to a law which is over 150 years old and precedes the invention of the telephone and the light bulb."

New blog on today's High Court ruling about Northern Ireland and abortion.
After asking my Grandma, Dorothy Innerd, to write down her memories of her Grandmother, Eliza King (née Agar/Twiddy). I decided to find exactly where Eliza was buried in St. Giles Church, Durham, and place a memorial plaque there for her. Eliza King was an inmate at Holloway Prison in London, 1943. She was sentenced to five yeas for manslaughter, as she carried out backstreet abortions.

Eliza was one of fifteen children, it is said that her mother was so sick of giving birth she would sit, half naked in cold alleyways, hoping to die. It is also said that Eliza posed as a fortune teller. My Grandma remembers that women would come to Eliza’s house asking for their fortunes to be told, when this happened my Grandma would have to leave Eliza’s house, she believes this was how women would come to Eliza asking for help with their pregnancy.Â
If you are pregnant and considering an abortion you can find advice here.
Crisis pregnancy centers are sometimes called fake abortion clinics because of their tendency to locate themselves near real clinics and use deceptive names and advertising. Their real goal is to prevent clients from having an abortion, even if this means lying. These myths are…
The edforchoice #exposeCPCs report looked into what CPCs get up to here in the UK. Here’s a blog post from EFC explaining what their fab and intrepid mystery shoppers found (spoiler alert: It ain’t pretty!).Â

Check out the short film clip our volunteers made about the abortion education they did (or didn't!) receive at school.Â
Unfortunately too many young people report having had NO information on abortion as an option (even though a third of women in the UK experiences abortion). Many others say that they learnt about the subject only in a Religious Studies lesson, or were given biased or inaccurate information.
What did you learn about abortion at school?
