The destruction of the entire universe and every soul in it is a truly depressing ending. Just because God replaced it with another universe that looked similar doesn't change anything - this is Job and his children all over again. Job doesn't want new children, and neither do I.

no amount of analysis or explanation about how that was the best possible ending and how it made sense and was in character could make me feel better about it. aziracrow fucking died. those two are not them. that’s it. that’s all that matters to me. they literally just wiped away everything that we’d loved. i don’t care if it “made sense” or was “right” i hate that it happened. i’m sad. nothing about it can make me less sad.

No amount of analysis could make me feel better about it because no matter how poetic/symbolic/biblical it was, it erased everything s1 was about. Not to mention the complete change in mood. I wouldn't be this upset if it had been a darker, more serious story in the first place. But it hadn't, that's the thing. This was not a drama, so no, the ending does NOT make sense. It could (and should) have been different.

6000 years. they'd been friends for 6000 years and spent the whole time pretending they weren't. they loved each other more than anything else in the universe and they only got a couple of years to live without heaven and hell breathing down their necks after saving the world. they didn't get any time at all to live together with everything out in the open. nightingales might have sang in berkeley square again but they weren't there to hear them. they never got to be an us. after all that.

The parallels between Tristan and Isolde / Merlin and Arthur go way, way beyond “just hold me” and they start as soon as the characters are introduced.
