Growth is simply learning how to suffer gracefully, elegantly and not letting your pain completely tear you apart.

I feel really bad because I have a lot of eczema just on my hands and I hate it and I'm so insecure about it, but I see strong people like you who have it all over their body and I'm just like ;(
First of all, I am sorry for your struggle. While your pain is less than mine I know how pain expands to fill any mental space available and that the presence of my own suffering does nothing to alleviate yours. Knowing that someone has it worse has never alleviated any pain or suffering, so yours is valid and real.
But also this is not a kind comment to make to someone like me. It says to me “Wow your life sucks so much worse than mine that it actually makes me feel better!” I know that is not what you meant but it may be how you feel, which is frankly understandable and even relatable but not information that you need to pass along to me. Many people who have disabilities and chronic illnesses feel this way as well just as a heads up.
DO you take any herbal/natural supplements for your eczema? e.g. probiotics, milk thistle, slippery elm, omega oils etc.
I used to take a ton of supplements including Flaxseed Oil, Fish Oil, Biotin, Vitamin D, a general multivitamin, Evening Primrose Oil, Zinc, Quercitin, L-Lysine, Glucosamine, and collagen. When I stopped I saw no change in my skin at all. I would definitely give them another shot if a medical professional thought they would help me but at this point they are expensive and take a lot of time/energy to organize. Still, if you think they may help you, all of the above are connected to skin strength and immune system health in one way or another and could be worth a shot for you.
Hi ! I am 19, covered with eczema on my body since I'm 11, it's verryyyyyyy slowly improving, but I was wondering : what would you say about physical relationships and body image related to eczema ? as I grew my teenage years within this skin and very bad body image, I have never experienced anything like a relationship, mainly because I'm kept back by this image I built around me (and skin as an armor facing people). Thank you, and keep your heart bright <3
First of all, I'm sorry for your suffering. You seem to be strong and I hope you feel proud of yourself for that. Body image and eczema are deeply related, but in an interesting way. Obviously the physical symptoms of eczema can be scary to see and embarrassing to show, which leads to feelings of shame around your body. I have definitely felt this and there's no way to completely eliminate it. However, I have found that when I am my sickest and my eczema is at its worst, I develop this sense of solidarity with my suffering body where I consider my body something separate from me and something worth caring for. Almost like your body is your child - instead of being angry or sad about its pain it is better to respond with love and sympathy. Focus on comfort - what can you do to help your body feel better? Maybe it's a warm shower (or maybe not haha), maybe it's sleeping in, maybe it's sitting outside in the sun, maybe it's a massage. Remember that you are your body are two different entities. Do not let a disease that you cannot control steal your self-worth or your self-love. I'm stealing your phrase because it's wonderful - keep your heart bright. <3
I have dyshidrotic eczema on my hands, if you don't know what that means its basically that I get itchy blisters along with the other normal sucky eczema symptoms. Basically my question is do you have any good ideas or methods to protect your hands or just in general eczema affected areas while in the shower? my skin gets very aggravated when in cold or hot weather so showering sucks.
When my hands are particularly bad I wear cotton gloves over them after moisturizing. Topical antibiotics have also helped. The biggest thing is to keep them covered - I find that when I can't see my eczema I don't think about it as much. Best of luck and happy healing..
