Echopod: Cinematic Synth Rock
Echopod (the band) receives trinary transmissions from the depths of cyberspace and translates them into the human language of music via synthesizer, bass, drums, and a renegade viola. Enslaving, ahem, enchanting audiences throughout northeast Kansas with their cosmic art rock sound (described as "Nightwish meets Pink Floyd"), Echopod is ready to perform indoctrination rites, ahem, live music for you. Contact trowbridgemhk[at]gmail.com for booking. Echopod (gastropodian overlord) is ancient, benevolent, and groovy. He inspires his devoted disciples to heights of musical genius, and depths of babbling to cats while scratching their ears. (Cats are placed on this earth as the surveillance units of Echopod.) All hail Echopod.
Debut EPÂ âArtifactsâ available from all major digital retailers, Spotify, and echopodmusic.bandcamp.com.
Hailing from Manhattan, Kansas, alternative rockers Echopod are 3 musicians who set out to design a forward-thinking, eclectic, and personal blend of sound, embracing the grit of garage rock and the quirkiness of synth pop. Their latest studio effort is a 5-song EP named âArtifacts.â The sound of the band borrows from the immense vernacular of alternative music in order to create a compelling narrative that echoes the work of forward-thinking artists in the likes of Battles, Glass Animals, or Spoon, only to mention a few. While opening track âMinotaurâ sets the album off with a fuzzy stomp, second number âLa Mort du Cirqueâ feels colourful and joyous, playing on the great mix of electric organ and vocal harmonies. âDo I Dare?â is characterised by a hypnotic groove that falls hand in hand with the quasi-lyrical qualities of the vocals. The EP moves on to âTeahead,â a song that is probably one of the most introspective moments on the entire album, built on a ghostly piano melody and on some of the most well-orchestrated vocal layers on the entire release. Closing track âCelestiumâ kicks in with some fuzzy electronic noises and moves on to a slow, uplifting melody that settles into an upbeat and dense groove. This song is one of the EPâs most diverse tracks and it reminds one of some of Arcade Fireâs most defining moments.
