for authors who only speak english: no, multilingual people do not randomly pepper their english sentences with phrases from their other languages! i can’t tell you how many times i’ve seen fics where multilingual characters exclaim things in different languages despite only having spoken in english thus far. we don’t actually slip in and out of languages that easily, and it doesn’t detract from your writing if you don’t explicitly write your character using a different language – just a descriptor will do (e.g. “he was speaking to his parents in spanish”).  and if you are going to write out your characters using a different language, please don’t use google translate
