Hi its me again! Lol.
I wanted to ask an interesting question.
Would you consider Sorry We're Closed part of the Grind Fiction/Shibuya Punk genre/subculture?
If you're not familiar Grind Fiction/Shibuya Punk is media like Jet Set Radio, Dorohedoro, The World Ends With You, Gachiakuta, Fooly Cooly, Samurai Champloo, Dandadan, Scott Pilgrim, No More Heroes, and Soul Eater... sorry for the long list just wanted to include many different examples to what the genre can entail.
Things like the graphics clearly feeling very much like Jet Set's low poly goodness, the vibrant designs, the way they dress, paired with a soundtrack that delves HEAVY into Hip-Hop during the bosses (going as far as referencing wu-tang clan, jenny still the best song in the game), the themes the story has and how its handled and told, and taking place in an urban section of London (Bomb Rush Cyberfunk's cousin?! lol).
Personally I think it fits nicely into the genre/subculture of Grind Fiction as someone deep in that genre+culture myself! but I'm not a creative on the game! So I thought why not ask someone who IS!
Ah I didn't even realise there was a whole genre dedicated to that feeling. I guess it's one of those things where I didn't work on it with this genre specifically in mind, but if people want to label it as such it feels appropriate. It's a pretty strong cultural style that was very emblematic of my childhood, and I think really encapsulates that "cultural worlds are colliding" in what I like to call "positive futurism" - this feeling that things arn't perfect now, but they're getting better with a sense of playfulness and ethereal rawness that we didn't have to grow out. The world was connecting and the possibilities were limitless. I still try to cling onto that feeling, or what remains of it within me. Glad to know there's a whole subculture out there that people have come to define! What a wonderful delightful thing to learn!

Kamikaze Girls [下妻物語} (2004), dir. Tetsuya Nakashima
Girl bosses
kamikaze girls super dollfies
somebody (me) has been hyper fixated on these dolls lately especially the ichigo doll
(photos from frill magazine vol 1 on internet archive)
the doll shown as Ichigo in these photos is sd Cyndy, the first image i saw of them was from Boudicca on DoA and at first glance i had believed she had a custom faceup for the event but upon a closer look at the frill images it looks like they used Cyndy's original faceup
[Release information] Momoko was limited to 101 dolls, with #001 belonging to Kyoko Fukada, the actress who portrayed Momoko in the movie. A small number of dolls were sold at the Home Town Doll Party Tokyo event; others were sold at an event at Marui One, through reservation and lottery via various webshops, including Volks and BTSSB, and via mail order from pamphlets handed out at cinemas where the movie was screened. (paragraph taken from lolibrary)
Momoko was also released with a number of sets seen in the movie
Momoko is seen wearing this set at the very start of the movie while she tells her backstory on her way to the baby the stars shine bright store in Tokyo
Momoko is seen wearing this set when she first meets Ichigo to sell her Ver**ce
Momoko wears this set on her trip to Tokyo with Ichigo it also features the bonnet with her custom embroidery this is when she meets the designer of Btssb
Momoko wears this set when she is commissioned by the Btssb designer to embroider a custom dress
and of course the iconic Shiro set Momoko wears in the finale of the movie
is there a set from the movie you would've liked to see released for the dollfie? this is an overview of the pictures and information I've collected so far, if you have any information i haven't included or something i got wrong please let me know
