Post inspired by @nadiamarychurch here is part of her caption: [Chilling out today will not make me mediocre. Not being ‘mediocre’ doesn’t require you to get up and achieve, achieve, achieve, and go, go, go. I think it means believing in yourself. I think it means enjoying who you are. I think it means embracing the day to day. I think it means living for something greater, seeing beyond, but not trying to rush the process. ] this spoke to me more than I can ever express. Not many people know this, but the word “mediocre” and the concept of mediocrity is my biggest fear in life (LIKE BIGGEST FEAR). I have this major fear and insecurity that I am nothing more that mediocre at everything I do and that my mere existence is mediocrity personified. I have spent COUNTLESS hours in therapy solely talking about this word. My therapist is shocked at how much this word runs rampant in my mind. We have always worked on trying change my perception and realise that I am not mediocre, but after reading this post I realise that maybe this tactic is wrong and instead of changing my perception of myself, maybe I need to change my perception of the concept of mediocrity. Maybe the opposite of mediocrity isn’t being “perfect”. Maybe the failure to attain excellence in all aspects of life doesn’t equate with being mediocre. Maybe life isn’t about being put together and wonderful 24/7- maybe it’s not about smashing goals every second, maybe it’s about enjoying the process, looking at your goals but also enjoying the buildup to them. This journey of life is sometimes slow and it’s a process, but the slow parts do not equal mediocrity. This was such a powerful thing for me and I just wanted to share w you all bc maybe it will help some of you. (Unsure if anyone else has a huge phobia of this word tho hahahah). THANKS NADIA XXX
