"Charles.." he knelt down, touching the boy’s shoulder. "You’re doing all I need of you, just as you are. The world has so much to offer; you’d be missing far too much, skipping all that way."

"I’m afraid that’s not an option, my boy." He chided gently, ruffling his son’s hair. "You’d see your mother more than myself, what with the University hours I keep…" but more to the point. "some things I simply can’t teach you."

"I want to be with you. I could go with you to the university...I'd be quiet, I promise. I could even help..."

"Rubbish. You may be ahead of your level but you’re still a boy. Plenty to learn where you are."

"I learn a lot from books and then I could spend more time with you..."

"Oh? Your father must have been quite the fellow. Though if I may say, I’ve always loved your name, as well. Actually gave it to my son."

Who on earth is telling you such things? I ought to have a talk with them.

"...Well...Professor Adams said I was too smart...for my school. I know everything they are teaching, dad."

"Excellent point, lad. Though if I may say, I feel we’ve reached the in between hours… a shame it hasn’t a proper term." A pause, puffing his pipe. "Brian, by the way. Who are you?"

"Brian is a rather wonderful name. It was my fathers."

Evening. Or good morning, is it… I’m not entirely sure.

"Good evening, I think. It is a little early yet to call it morning in my opinion but most would say it is morning."

"Drunk, every once and awhile...yes...High, no."

"Are you high?"

"Pretty sure the only thing they care about it cuddles and napping in warm spots"
