it’s okay to feel like you’re behind in life. the media portrays a rigid timeline of life experiences, telling us that if we haven’t adhered to this ridiculous “order” then we’re a loser. but that’s not true.
you can have these experiences at any age. it’s okay if you’re 18 and haven’t been kissed, or if you’re 30 and live with your parents. it doesn’t make you worthless or stupid, or anything else. you’re not behind in life, even if you feel like it. you’re going at your own pace and that’s more than okay. there are more people than you think in the same boat. you’re not alone in feeling like this.
this especially applies to those who’ve been through trauma and / or deal with mental illness(es). these things often steal our childhood and adolescence, making it even harder to reach the “common” teenage milestones of getting laid and smoking weed, or whatever’s cool at the moment. you’re not missing out. you’re not too late. you can experience everything you want to in your own time.
there’s no time limit on the very vast majority of these experiences. you can do as many of them as you want. life doesn’t suddenly become dull and meaningless at 18 or 25 or 40. you have so much time life, i promise. there’s no time limit on happiness, or on anything you want to accomplish.
