ariana wasn't entirely sure what had come over her. it felt as if the idea had popped in her head and refused to leave. it was insane with everything that she had going on, to take such a detour. she barely remembered the last time that she had been in brooklyn heights. almost all of her free time was spent in california or florida with her family. she found herself standing on the sidewalk across the street from pete's place. his mother had been nice enough to give her his address. what she hadn't been expecting was to see elsie storming out of his place.

having elsie come by had been a hail mary attempt at working shit out between them–not romantically, but for the baby that would arrive into this world in a month or two. however as soon as she'd entered his home, they had gotten into it over the paint he'd picked for the nursery walls, her claiming that it was toxic. it wasn't that he didn't respect that she had hormones coursing through her body altering her personality, but it didn't give her the right to treat him like shit and use it as an excuse. especially when he'd researched paints for a nursery before even getting started. when the woman stormed out, pete kept an eye out on her from the window of his house with a hand clenched at his side, but it wasn't seeing her swiping away tears in her eyes that stopped him in his tracks when he went to turn away. it was the fact that on the other side of the street stood his ex-girlfriend with a box in hand. after waving her towards the door, he walked downstairs and swung open the door to his brooklyn heights brownstone. his jaw clenched at the sight of her, standing there looking beautiful as always, but today wasn't a day where he could appreciate her beauty fully. when they'd talked last she'd hinted at his harsh denial of wanting children when they'd dated, but the reality of it wasn't that he hadn't wanted children with her. it had been that he hadn't wanted them, period. obviously things had changed sinc ehten, but it didn't take away from the uncomfortable feeling he had within him at the fact that she'd even thought that. "a call would've been nice," he admitted and looked down at his socked feet, as he stood in his doorway. "look, you've got nothing to apologize for," the man continued before looking over his shoulder, "i would invite you in, but i doubt i'll be good company." pete cleared his throat and then guilt took over, especially when he noticed the box of pastries in her hand, knowing she'd went through all that trouble. "you can come in though, if you don't mind my shit mood. i mean shoot mood, i mean... fuck!" he groaned and let his head drop backwards. this whole cussing thing would be a hard habit to break.
