Behind the weapons and skins of Overwatch: an interview with Blizzard's concept artist David Kang
Q: That reminds me of your recent creation, Palanquin D.Va. How did you come up with the idea?
A: I grabbed a lot of Hanbok pictures online as references, and I have also seen my family members wear Hanbok quite frequently when I was a child. I put a lot of effort in making it the right Korean attire, and had my concept art pre-approved by Blizzard Korea before developing it further. D.Va acts a little like the princess figure, so I thought Korean Gama would fit well with her image. I was glad to hear that the Korean community liked it. Also, the traditional Hanbok has a long skirt, but I shortened it for D.Va because she is a mobile character that runs around a lot. I wasn’t entirely sure if that would be okay, but there wasn’t much issue about that, so I think it turned out alright.
D.Va Model Base
I had the incredible opportunity to model base D.Va for Overwatch 2! D.Va was the first Overwatch hero I fell in love with prior to me joini

Inside of: Sleighing D.Va skin
As D.Va’s second Winter Wonderland skin, the inspiration comes from a different perspective on the holidays. Her dress is inspired by Japanese Lolita fashion, which incorporates wide, Victorian-esque bell-shaped skirts. D.Va’s knee-high socks, paired with the bows in her hair and on her outfit, are essential to the Lolita aesthetic of cuteness. Looking closely at her skirt, you can see that even her signature bunny logo got a frosty makeover. “The pattern on D.Va’s dress was really special for me to work on,” says Fang. “It was also a really fun challenge to make her mech work as a sleigh with the bells and harness on her guns.”
Now that D.Va is decked out in holiday style, she’s ready to slay with her fellow winter-y heroes in the fight! GG.

Daehyun lore bits from Michael Chu on Blizzard Forums
"What is Dae-Hyun's role?
He’s not a member of the MEKA squadron and he’s not the CO (he tells D.Va that Command says they’re in the clear just before the attack) so what does he do to help the MEKA? Is he a mechanic who helps the others work on their mechs? An engineer who keeps the base running? A tactician who calls out enemy movements? A glorified cheerleader?! I’m actually really curious about this. If Micheal Chu has already stated Dae-Hyun’s job in MEKA, I missed it."
"Dae-hyun works primarily as a mechanic on the mechs (specifically on Tokki–D.Va’s mech). There are other mechanics who help to maintain the different mechs and have other responsibilities around the base."
"They’re friends from childhood."

Daehyun lore bits from Michael Chu's twitter
"@/westofhouse What is Dae-hyun’s position within MEKA? Is he specifically Hana’s assistant or something else?"
"He's a mechanic, specifically assigned to D.Va."
"@/westofhouse I've always wondered—we have personal and family names for all of the MEKA crew, except Dae-hyun. Have you and the team picked out a family name for him yet, tucked away for future lore updates? Or is he proving a writers' bane difficult to fully name character?"
"I thought we'd answered this back when Shooting Star came out! It's "Park.""
