Always the Bridesmaid, Never the Bride (Vignette Part 2):
Daphne stepped out of the small changing room Sam (somehow) had in the store.
She asked Kuro to tie some of the laces on her back, feeling paranoid about the sweetheart cut of the bodice. Kuro was absolutely hyping her up, making the older girl feel embarrassed.
Daphne took a deep breath, looking at herself in the mirror. The dress was definitely pretty, it had those long flowy sleeves she tends to gravitate towards, and the skirt fanned out a bit at the bottom.
She kept pulling the chest area up until she was sure her chest wouldn't move.
“Woaaahhh Prefect you pull that off nicely!” Said Ace, giving Daphne a small, unwanted fist bump to her shoulder.
Daphne gave him a chuckle and just walked out of the store, her smile dropping back down to her usual downturned expression.
Everything that went on happened in a blur to Daphne. Things moved too fast.
She was nervous for what she had to do, nervous that her own feelings would get the best of her.
Ace broke through the cafeteria door, Daphne and Kuro following suit. Initially she stayed behind as the students with magic fought off the ghosts.
Idia simply couldn't take his eyes off her.
How could one woman be so enchanting?
He's never seen her hair so out of her face, her eyes are so much more striking than usual. Her hair looks beautiful, all braided like that….
Idia was trying to be a gentleman, that's his best friend right there! He wanted to wipe the stupid droll dripping down his chin, he tried to focus on everything but her chest and hips. She looks divine in that dress, sevens curse the (invisible) binds he's in. Not to mention that the blue flowers in her hair matched the hues in his own hair, it's as if she's been his bride all along.
Daphne on the other hand was putting her little plan into action.
Daphne was different all of a sudden, she was calculated, moving with the elegance and poise the school knows she carries. She didn't seem as anxious as she usually does.
Daphne held her hand out, not towards Idia.
“It'd only be courteous of me to dance with the bride before the ceremony right? I am her bridesmaid after all.” Daphne said, her voice a tone Idia was all too familiar with, she was faking like crazy.
Eliza looked at Daphne, a twinge of bitterness in her gaze. “If you insist…”
Daphne put her hand on Eliza's waist and held the ghost’s other hand within hers. The choir started playing a soft melody, the two girls waltzing in the middle of the cafeteria.
Daphne smiled the whole time, bringing Eliza awfully close to her, spinning her and dipping her with ease.
Idia was looking away, his hair burning bright red. Oh what he would do to be in Eliza's position, that should be him!!! Not her!!!
For a split second it seemed as if Eliza was going to change her mind about the marriage, the princess stared at Daphne's face the entire time (or at least she tried-). Despite all this Eliza wouldn't budge, and after Daphne and Eliza's little dance Eliza quickly retracted her hand away, clearly flustered.
Daphne took a small bow, waiting for the others to do something.
The entire cafeteria just looked at her, Lilia giving her a cheeky grin, he won the jackpot with his kids. Daphne just shrugged, not really caring that people found it strange that two girls were dancing way too close to each other.
In the end Ace was the one to slap some sense into Eliza. Daphne only felt bad in the end, she knows deep down Eliza and her aren't too different after all, both women just wanting someone to meet their crazy expectations, just wanting their prince to come. Then again Daphne also wanted Eliza gone because of how god damn annoying she was-
Thank the seven Eliza finally realized who her true prince was and would finally leave the school alone. Daphne let out a breath she didn't know she had held in, she immediately walked to the recently freed Idia, the poor boy slightly shaky.
“Idia!” She hugged him tight, bringing him down to her height level.
Idia's hair shot pink, he felt a soft weight on his face and didn't dare open his eyes. “D-D-D-daphne! H-hey you're hugging really tight..” (Yeah like that was the main problem Idia-)
Daphne blushed, never realizing how compromising Idia's position against her had been. “Sorry sorry, I'm just glad you're safe ..”, she had a small awkward smile on her face, the one that gives Idia butterflies.
The two “friends” kept talking for a while as a small party ensued in the cafeteria… that's when the two pranksters decided to strike.
Kuro was whispering in Ace's ear, the ginger haired boy grinning a bit too mischievously. Kuro grabbed one of the bouquets of flowers on the cafeteria tables, walking over to Daphne when Idia was getting his ego skyrocketed by the other students.
“heyyy daphhhhh, can ya hold this for me? I need to go do something super quick!” Kuro said in a cheery tone, too cheery. Daphne raised an eyebrow but did as her best friend requested, holding the bundle of blue roses in her hands. Kuro flipped Daphne's veil over, causing her to get disoriented.
Ace quickly got behind Daphne, pushing her straight into Idia.
Both Daphne and Idia blushed bright shades of red as they got bumped into one another. Daphne ended up falling onto of idia, her legs pinning Idia's hips down. The blue bouquet was still in her hands, some of its petals falling on top of Idia.
“I'm so so so so so sorry Idia! I knew Kuro was gonna do something- holy shit are you hurt or something? ‘ Daphne was very panicked, holding the back of Idia's head to make sure he wasn't hurt. Idia's pupils were dilated, he wanted to stay like this forever. His eyes drifted from her eyes to the way her hair dangled from her head, from the hints of light in her hollow eyes, to the softness of her chest, the feeling of her body weight about to crush him-
His eyes went back up to her face, he can't keep thinking such things about his best friend! “Y-yeah! Fine! Totes fine! Gg …. They won ig…” Idia mumbled, trying to think only platonic thoughts.
Daphne got off of Idia, extending her hand to help him up. The two ended up holding hands for too long. It felt too perfect. They both craved the feeling of the other's touch too much.
It was getting late, almost everyone had left the cafeteria by now.
Daphne sighed, “I'll talk to Kuro later… she gives me a headache sometimes but I love her too much..” Daphne smiled, surprisingly today wasn't a total disaster. She was mainly happy that Idia is safe now.
“Yeah… yeah I get that with Ortho a lot” Idia laughed a bit, looking at Daphne as she looked outside.
“Please look at me ….” Idia thought to himself, she looks so beautiful in this lighting.
“We uh…should head back to our dorms now-”
“I'LL WALK YOU!!- uhh I mean we should walk together? In case of more ghosts and stuff..” Idia said.
Daphne blushed a bit but took Idia up on his offer.
